Ow, ow, ow...

With the weather being a tad warmer in the evenings I've gotten back in the swing of running with Nikolai on a daily basis. Now mind you we don't do a lot of serious running but our trek covers a good mile and a half or so with me attempting to run at least half of it. At this point I can safely say that it seems nearly impossible to outrun or even ( Read more... )

At this point I can safely say that it seems nearly impossible to outrun or even tire a sled dog.

*s* I'm not surprised, given his heritage. ^^

*chuckles* Exactly. He's more than happy to get out there and show me just how much better he is at running than I am. :P

I can imagine. :)

I'm still thinking about what kind of dog I'd like to get if/when I get one (which I won't until I actually have the proper environment, not just an apartment in a block somewhere in the city), too. Obviously, I'd still like a malamute, although a book on dog breeds I recently browsed through cautioned that they were not for beginners; I'd definitely like a long-coated white shepherd (like this ^^) or a samoyed, too, though, both of which the book said were OK for first-time owners.

Anyhow, I've been wondering how I'd make sure that my dog would get enough exercise then. I'm kinda wondering if taking my dog along on a bike ride would be an idea, but... well, I'm honestly not sure it'd be a GOOD idea. :P At the very least, it wouldn't be until she was well-trained enough to not pul on the leash and all that.

Ah, I'm rambling - it's all just a random thought that came to my mind again.

*nods* I've seen similar things that talk about Mals not being for beginners but I think that is partially due to their grooming needs and partially due to them being thick headed/stubborn.

Long coated white dogs like the picture and Sammys are very pretty dogs to say the least. I don't really know how good or bad they are for beginners though.

I've seen people take their dogs for runs while they are biking. To me it seems a tad dangerous and would be very easy to have an accident. Would be good exercise though. :)
