So let's talk motorcycles...

It's been a while since I professed my lust love of sport bikes and all the fun gear that go along with them. A recent conversation on Twitter brought it back to the forefront and actually has me once more pondering just exactly what bike I want to seriously consider. It's a given that it WILL be in the sport bike class, there really is no further ( Read more... )

Ah yes, I thought I knew what you meant but had to ask just to be sure.

First I want to simply say thank you. You and a few others have been a wealth of information and I really truly appreciate it.

Funny you should mention the Interceptor. While I have not seen one in person I do see them for sale now and again at the local dealers and they always caught my eye. It's one I would have to see in person and sit on/ride to be sure though. It's not that I am biased against some of the Hondas. They look awesome in my opinion but when I sat on a new CBR 600 it felt odd. Hard to describe but it sort of felt like the center of gravity was too far forward for my liking. I see that the F4i went out of production in 2006. Is there really any huge difference between the brand new CBRs and the F4i of a few years ago?

Part of the reason I had settled on the Ninja was that it seemed to be a relatively sane choice to start with. Came fairly highly recommended as a starter bike, generally sorta upright and felt decently balanced/comfortable. While price really doesn't spook me it is something I am mindful of. A brand new Ninja might hit $7,000 on the showroom while most of the rest mentioned are $10,000 and beyond. When just looking at retail prices, the Ninja is cheapest of the bunch by at least $3,000.

Even though I am handy with tools and can deal with maintenance I am a little skittish about buying a used bike. I'm concerned about getting someone elses problem or abused bike. Having a factory warranty under me for a year gives me that level of comfort I need in a vehicle until I become accustomed to it and its needs. Of course the flip side of that is that you can buy a late model, low mileage used bike for sometimes as little as half the retail price. You just have to have financing lined up or have cash in hand.

I'm not taking the plunge on a whim or a moments notice. There has been a decent amount of research and I'm sure there will be plenty more.

After doing a little reading I am really warming up to the idea of a VRF\Interceptor. The only thing that concerns me so far is the weight difference. It is at least 100 pounds heavier than the other bikes I have looked at. Not sure how I feel about that yet.

I can safely say that the pictures I have seen of the 2010 version are not attractive. Looks like they did a major revision.

At any rate, I'm not buying one this afternoon. When? Unknown at this time. However, with me paying off all the vehicles the target just became a lot closer and I would be surprised if I don't have something by this time next year.

I always assume you're busy. >.< Sorry.

When is a good time for you? There are times during the week or over the weekend that I'm on Yahoo after 9PM or so for a while before bed.
