The Problems with Starting Over
I'm so excited to start working on this story again, but there are lots of loose ends to tie up.
For one thing: the backup I used did not contain all of the updates to the story.
To wit: Matt was not saved.
Now, Matt was based on a Sim by another creator, and that Sim had wound up saved in the Sims bin. Still, going back and piecing together his hair and outfit were less than fun. I also rarely leave the Sims completely untouched. I believe Laura is, but most of the others have slightly touches to the jawline or different eyes or so on and so forth... I also can't find his goatee. In his next scene (which is linearly directly after his first appearance), Matt will be newly shaven. I guess he shaved in the car on his drive over to the police station...
A lot of other pieces are things that only I will notice, really. The picture quality won't be as good (I'm not sure what's wrong with my computer, I've tried a number of things, it's just getting old). I seem to have lost my fingernail mod as well. Scenes that I had built don't seem to be there, again, probably because the backup was so old. (Oh god, I hope that office lot is still there... I worked so hard on that!)
I've lost my pose lists of the old poses that hadn't been added to the Pose List update. I'm nervous to get back in the saddle. I'm convinced everyone has forgotten my story, and I don't know how to introduce myself again without seeming like I'm tooting my own horn. Chapter 1 was posted in June of 2011. That was a very long time ago. Can I start reposting the old chapters now?
I want to wait until I have a backlog of chapters to begin posting publicly again, so I don't leave long spaces between chapters. How long should I wait? What should I post?
What stories are popular now? How do I get back into the community?
And other story-based conflicts. I know what happens to almost everyone, but I'm torn about what happens to Kat. What I had planned seems really hackneyed and I don't want to go that route. But everyone undergoes a major conflict, and I can't leave Kat out. Should I allow subtlety to take the lead? After all, what will happen to Laura is really soap-opera material.
Hmmm.
