art will always be a consumer industry as sad as it is... i'd like to think of all art as being "pop" in a certain essence... the name for yourself has always come from who you know and how you present yourself... in order to surf you have to rise above the wave...

listen to John Coltrain's India... think you'd like it...

Johnathon, Well, I want to make a name for my self where it matters. All of my friends, and everyone that sees my work, really likes it. But how do I know they aren't just being nice? Btw, the only thing I could find from Steve Roach was "Australia" but it was very relaxing, and dark. :) I will check Coltrain out.

yeah... i run into the same problem all the time...

music though.. i'll give you a few other suggestions...

Synaesthesia is a pretty good one, it has a background coming from industrial roots(Front Line Assembly/Delirium)... but has a very "space" feel to it... slowdive is good for those moods when your not totally into jazz or slower electronic... but you want both of them... the genre of "shoegaze" is wonderful for that other shoegazish bands: Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil, Mojave 3(side-project to slowdive more idie rock sounding).... and there's the more post-modern jazz/trip-hop.. like Mira Calix... Andrea Parker... Lamb... sorta feel...
