Apparently Africa's been having problems with increasing levels of violence towards homosexuals. This article highlights that in particular, different mosques have refused to bury men "suspected" of being gay, and those who have been buried have some trouble staying put, as exemplified by the passage above. Bravo, gentlemen. You've finally figured out how to deal with that pesky homosexual menace. Desecrate their graves, gallivant drunkenly triumphantly through the streets, and leave their decomposing bodies in the side of the road in plain view of their grieving families.
The crackdown also coincided with spiraling food prices. Niang says political and religious leaders saw an easy way to reach constituents through the inflammatory topic of homosexuality.
Wow, a leader of a poor country looking for an easy scapegoat? That doesn't sound remotely familiar at all.
"They found a way to explain the difficulties people are facing as a deviation from religious life," says Niang. "So if people are poor - it's because there are prostitutes in the street. If they don't have enough to eat, it's because there are homosexuals."
Because slapping a hooker or "correctively" raping a lesbian woman really gets you a seat closer to God at the eternal dinner table.
