What happened before the filming of the Paper Kiss Game?
A/N: My first sort-of attempt at fluff so I just wrote a drabble instead. Enjoy! ^^
“OK, you’re done, get out,” snapped the stylist noona as she finished Wooyoung’s make-up. He opened his eyes and blinked a little cluelessly, before he scrambled out of the seat to make way for Seulong. There were no empty chairs in the cramped and crowded dressing room, and it was barely possible for him to move about without knocking something over in the first place. Feeling completely in the way, he impatiently made his way to the door and let himself into the studio.
The studio was more spacious and less busy, though the staff weren’t done with preparations either. The set had a false curtain backdrop, some chairs and a parquet floor. It was going to be their Idol Army Christmas special and Wooyoung already had an inkling what sort of game they were in for. It was completely for fanservice, of course, but Wooyoung couldn’t help feeling a little nervous. Firstly, he hadn’t really had his first kiss yet (he didn’t want to count the one in high school) and secondly, it was with guys. The thought made his skin crawl and furthermore, he didn’t even know who he’d be paired with.
Since he had nothing to do anyway, Wooyoung wandered around the curtain backdrop to look for where they usually stored the props before filming began. To his surprise, Nichkhun was standing there, staring at the props on the table. Wooyoung hadn’t realised that Nichkhun was already done with his hair and make-up so fast. Nichkhun looked up as Wooyoung rounded the corner, a worried expression on his face. Wooyoung smiled and walked over towards him.
“What’re you doing here, hyung?”
“What kind of game is this, Wooyoung?” asked Nichkhun, his tone confused, holding up that thin piece of frosted paper. It was a little smaller than Wooyoung had expected.
“Erm,” Wooyoung mumbled as he took the piece of paper from Nichkhun. He had forgotten that Nichkhun, being a foreigner, was probably new to the idea of the paper kiss game. He put the frosted paper up to his lips. “Basically you suck on it and transfer it to another person. Like this.” He pouted his lips like a goldfish and sucked on the frosted paper, which stayed adhered to his mouth.
Nichkhun looked at him bewilderedly, as if unable to comprehend the fun in this game. “So… I get it from you like this?” Wooyoung widened his eyes as he felt himself being pulled closer to Nichkhun. This was certainly not what he had intended to happen. Before he knew it, he could feel Nichkhun’s warm moist breath in his mouth as their lips brushed over the thin piece of paper. It felt oddly soft. There was a brief suction of cool air and then Nichkhun pulled away, the paper now stuck on his lips instead of Wooyoung’s. Nichkhun detached the paper from his mouth, looking pleased with himself for succeeding in the game.
Wooyoung swallowed, unable to stop the heat rushing to his cheeks. He felt ashamed for even being embarrassed about this, like a blushing schoolgirl. It certainly hadn’t felt as repulsive as he had expected. In fact, Wooyoung was a little terrified to realise that it hadn't been repulsive at all.
Eyeing the frosted paper with some interest, Nichkhun put it to his own mouth and inhaled. He smiled a lopsided goldfish-smile at Wooyoung and innocently pointed enthusiastically to himself, indicating that it was Wooyoung’s turn to receive the paper. How does he not find this weird? Wooyoung wondered, looking at him incredulously. There was a moment of reluctance, but Nichkhun’s arm weaved behind his shoulder and pulled him in once again as he leaned down to transfer the paper to Wooyoung.
Now that he wasn’t so much caught by surprise anymore, Wooyoung found himself grabbing hold of the back of Nichkhun’s neck and his eyes fluttered close as their lips brushed once more over that thin film. Both their lips seemed then to freeze in motion. Neither of them were inhaling, but were rather pressing the paper a little harder than necessary between their lips. The position was held for a few seconds too long, before Wooyoung finally clamped down on the paper with his mouth, mildly sucking on Nichkhun’s bottom lip in the process. Whether he had done this deliberately or not, Wooyoung almost didn’t want to know.
When he opened his eyes and removed the paper from his mouth, Nichkhun was looking at him in some surprise and embarrassment. Wooyoung found that he couldn’t really look at him straight in the eyes. The air was different between them now.
“Yeah, so that’s how it’s played,” Wooyoung said softly, clearing his throat. Nichkhun didn’t answer, and only looked down at the ground a little awkwardly. Wooyoung found himself being amused at how much he looked like a little boy in this state, before he caught himself going further down this train of thought and turned even redder than before. “I’ll… I’ll go check if the rest are ready…” He coughed as he turned to leave.
“Wooyoung,” said Nichkhun suddenly, grabbing Wooyoung’s wrist. Wooyoung turned around, surprised. He felt a mild heat rising all over. Nichkhun looked a little perplexed. “Should we… I mean… can we be paired up later during the game? I mean… since we’ve practised and all… it should be easier for us to win… right?” Nichkhun looked at him a little uncertainly, his eyes wide and glimmering with hopefulness. Wooyoung didn’t know how he was supposed to say no. He found himself reflexively beaming before he quickly coughed and quelled this into a neutral expression
“Yeah, sure,” he replied with an air of affected nonchalance. “I’ll just… I’ll just go tell the PDs then.” Nichkhun grinned with undisguised delight.
Wooyoung smiled bashfully to himself as he walked back towards the dressing rooms. He couldn’t wait for filming to start.
