Mass Effect 3's Diana Allers

Feb 13, 2012 23:07

I'm sure those of you who have been following the latest Mass Effect 3 news know by now that IGN's Jessica Chobot is new Normandy crew member/galactic reporter Diana Allers.  She's apparently also supposedly romancable and I don't know what else she will bring to the team, but I have some serious issues with her as a character.

More specifically I have an issue with Chobot being Diana Allers.

It isn't that she is modeled after Chobot, I don't care about that at all, it's the fact that Chobot herself is working for IGN as a reporter/reviewer that is one of the internet's main reviewing sites.  I have some journalistic integrity issues with Ms. Chobot and her involvement with Mass Effect 3.  The conflict of interest is horribly high in this involvement and is almost a guarantee that ME3 will receive a high score if not a perfect score from IGN when they release their review.  They certainly did it to Mass Effect 2 when it came out 2 years ago - to the point where many in the fandom knew they had essentially brought the review.

I would like to pose Ms. Chobot a question - did you sell your journalistic soul (did you even have one to begin with?) just so you could have your five minutes of fame in the game?  Now I understand having an actress look-alike (ala Miranda Lawson's voice actress from ME2), in fact I don't care or mind about that, but having a reporter?! look alike, especially one who is part of a prominent gaming review site?  No way.

Too bad IGN does not uphold the standards of journalistic integrity.  This is probably the last straw for me regarding IGN - you have lost me as a reader and have lost a lot of your credibility when you allowed Ms. Chobot to voice and be in the Mass Effect 3 game.

-S.

P.S. - That said, I'm taking the first opportunity given to me to either boot her off the Normandy, kill her by "Reaperfication", not taking her as a party member, or punching her in the face.  Now where is that demo so I can do that.
