Description: Set in 1934 on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland, The Cripple of Inishmaan is a strangely coming tale in the great tradition of Irish storytelling. When word arrives that a Hollywood director is coming to a neighboring island of Inishmore to produce a film, the one person who wants to be in the movie more than anybody is young Cripple Billy. In chasing his dream, Billy takes considerable risks to gain his love, escape the tedium of life on the island, and realize himself as a human being. The Cripple of Inishmaan and other plays by McDonagh have become popular worldwide because they compellingly capture both the hilarity and pain of the human condition.
