Bridge WTF FAIL
So 35W over the river (major major N/S freeway) collapsed last night in the tail end of rush hour. Everyone I know how to contact up there is okay, however my family had a too close call with one of my step sisters two cars behind the southbound side collapse.
According to her she was driving southbound on the way home from work there was a motorcycle and a car in front of her. Suddenly everything beyond that car just fell, disappearing, taking cars, construction workers, everything with it. They were all able to stop, the motorcycle rider suggested they just get off the freeway to make room for rescue workers, there really wasn't anything they could do from where they were. Obviously she was pretty shaken up, but okay and eventually made it home safe.
My heart goes out to those who lost loved ones or are still searching for their loved ones, the startribune is reporting 60 injuries, 9 dead and 20 still missing.
(edit: current numbers are 4 confirmed deaths, 79 injured and still 20-30 people missing)
There were times in my life while I lived in Minneapolis that I drove that bridge every single day to and from work, just as hundreds of thousands of people do on a daily basis.
