Both me and my mom are diehard J.R. Ward ‘The Black Dagger Brotherhood’ series fans. We have all the books and the guide. But there are some things that my mom and I don’t agree on about the series. I love the series, I really do. But I hate the sexism and homophobia.
Like the fact that Butch and Vishous didn’t end up together and the fact that Blaylock and Qhuinn aren’t together. I haven’t read the new book because my mom and I wait until it’s out in paperback to get them, but my mom speculated that Qhuinn and Blaylock won’t even end up together. Or, if they do, they’ll end up in a threesome with that Chosen female, Layla.
Personally, I believe this would be a horrible, ridiculous and stereotypical thing to do. It would show that, despite what I first thought about J.R. Ward, she is just like all the other authors. In the case that two males cannot end up together and be happy just together.
There’s also the fact that, character wise, I don’t think this would ever be a good threesome pairing. Simply because Blaylock is, obviously, completely homosexual while Qhuinn is very much in love with him, even though he is bisexual. Than there’s Layla, who is so innocent it’s sad.
I feel for her so much my heart hurts. And her ending up in a threesome with the two of them aggravates me, simply because she would be in a loveless mating. Neither one love her like a lover, they might care for her deeply and, yes, love her to an extent, but they’ll never love her like they love each other. And that just wouldn’t be fair to her.
Now this brings me back to my accusations about it being stereotypical. If anyone ever watches T.V. shows or movies about two male lovers, you know that in most of these the two never end up together. Usually one dies, cheats, leaves, etc.
Hell, even in ‘Queer as Folk’ Brian and Justin didn’t end up together in the end. Which I think, personally, was a horrible message to gay teens and couples. While I’m a heterosexual female, I am pro-GLBT and the fact that the show was so popular and the two main characters didn’t even end up together is horrible!
It’s like proving the Republicans and Conservatives right and that is so wrong on so many levels.
Back to the Brotherhood series and my ranting; I just think that if my mom’s right and J.R. Ward does do that it’s wrong. When I first started reading the series I was surprised and delighted that the author seemed to have so much courage when it came to certain topics.
Even if Butch and Vishous didn’t end up together.
But for Blaylock and Qhuinn to not end up together when they are so in love, is just heartbreaking. And if J.R. Ward does do the threesome I think it would be worse because it would be a mockery. Not just to Qhuinn and Blaylock but also to Layla, who would never get her own chance at real true love.
So... yes, those are my thoughts. My personal thoughts on the subject.
Obviously I’m a Liberal and a Demarcate.
Peace.
