I really am a nice guy! I do not complain allot but on here all I seem to do is bitch lol! Today is another crazy day at work. I came in at 3 and it started on my first phone call I answred. Just a FYI you can not get medical advise by calling your local Emergency Department, we can not give medical advice due to liability issues! All I can do is tell the person calling that they can call nurse on call, and explain that if they feel they need to be seen by a Doctor they are welcome to come to the ED to be evaluated. Well this guy that called me would not get it threw his thick skull that he was waisting his breath telling me about this rash he has on his legs! firstly cause i really do not care cause he is on the phone with me and i kept trying to tell him that I could not offer him any medical advice on the phone but i would be happy to give him the number for Nurse on call or he can just come in and wait to be seen! Then he askes how long the wait is! The average wait time to be seen by a doctor in an ED is 6 hours! Ours is usually about 2 so we are doing good here. My theory is that if you need to ask how long the wait is then you probably are not sick enough to come into the ED! Because the Emergency Department is for Emergency's not to be used as your primary care doctor! But it seems like Doctors are sending there patients here to the ED because they do not want to deal with them in the office so we get stuck dealing with the annoying family who think that there is one ED nurse per patient and there family member is the sickest in the ED! The staff here works very hard and is very passionate, caring and empathetic! The Nurses are streached to there breaking point! It is an unrelenting department fast pased, demanding, and high stress! The funny thing is that the idiocy of people stilll suprises me! It seems that with every new instance the level of stupidity drops another knotch lol! I hope I do not sound like a total ass! I am just venting!
