Because mindless fluff is yey.
Missions, for ANBU, could be very short, or very long. Sometimes they were easy, and sometimes they were not. While Hige's last mission had been relatively easy, it had also been very long. And while they hadn't returned back from the mission itself late, by the time she'd cleaned up, given her report, patched up a bit, checked on Kashikoi, and her teammates, it had been rather late. Late enough that a certain farmer was most likely in bed and going to sleep, if not asleep already.
... like that would stop her.
Flitting over rooftops with Kashikoi not far behind, she traced the route she knew by heart by now. Soon, though not soon enough, she was outside Suzuki's farm and a soft sigh escaped her lips. The house was dark, and locked up- he was asleep, like she had assumed. For a little while, she stood outside one window, a hand on her hip as she thought. A few times before, she'd stayed late with him before heading back home, when most of the Inuzuka Compound was asleep. But she had never stayed the night, let alone stayed the night with him next to her. But she hadn't see him in awhile....
Reaching a decision, Hige easily picked a lock to one of the windows, slipping inside and letting Kashikoi inside before letting the window shut and latching it. In her 'room', she took off pouches and knives and other things, before padding to Suzuki's room. There was a slight hesitation before she slipped into the room and, without warning, settled in next to Suzuki, pulling the covers around her.
He'd probably been out for the better part of two hours by the time Hige picked his lock. Usually, two hours was barely enough to get him drowsy, but he'd been working overtime in the gardens, and for some reason he was just wiped; the instant he hit that mattress, he was out like a light. That was why when Hige slid up next to him, he didn't stir when he felt the bed dip under her added weight, nor did he even bat a lash at the new warmth behind his back.
It was the feeling of his blankets being pulled away that alerted him, enough to jerk and startle himself awake (or at least somewhat there). He turned in his bed, glancing around wildly for the culprit who so dared to steal his blankets away... and found Hige laying there instead.
...huh.
"Hi-Hige?" His voice was think with sleep but murmured almost incredulously, the sight of her so startling and baffling all he could do was blink and stare at her.
...and wish he'd gone to bed in more than just his boxers.
Who cared what he was wearing. (... though he did look awfully nice in those boxers)
"S'me." She answered in a low whisper, blinking back at him in the darkness of the room. He didn't seem upset with her, just a bit puzzled and probably a little cold because in the course of curling up under the blankets, she'd stolen a bit of his blanket. So she shifted to give most of it back to him, curling close as he was warm and she'd missed him and who knew when she'd be called out again. She wanted to see him, now, not later... now.
But she watched him, hesitating momentarily. Voice low Hige asked quietly. "... s'this okay?"
Suzuki thought about it.
It sure as hell felt okay, but was it really...?
...Well yeah. Yeah, why the hell not? They were both adults here, and.. and he had missed her.. and she looked kinda cute there.. on his bed... ........
He swallowed thickly. "Y-Yeah, sure..." He shifted around a little, reaching out to pull more of his blanket around her. She looked almost vulnerable there, so sleepy and curled up. His hand fell on her face for a moment, his fingers gently pushing back some of her hair from her face as he gazed down at her, the air around them quiet and cool. "You okay?" he asked in the quietness, worry clear in his voice.
Hige shifted to accommodate his own shifting, so he had enough blanket but she was underneath them as well. Shifting, she was eventually partially up against him, she finally settled and let the battle ready lines of her shoulders fade. Suzuki was warm and awfully comfortable and with Kashikoi outside, she knew that she could relax, if only for a little while.
A soft, pleased sigh escaped her lips as his fingers brushed her cheek; unashamedly she leaned into the touch, slitted eyes narrowed as she watched him.
"Mmm." She finally answered. "I am. Not injured, it was merely... long."
"Yeah," Suzuki had to agree, "it was." He leaned forward then, and planted a soft, but undeniably passionate kiss on her lips, before he settled back down beside her. He wound his arm around her shoulders, pulling her in close, while the other settling on her hand, holding it close between them. Feeling safer and more complete than he had in a while he let his eyes fall shut, a soft sigh escaping his lips.
"I'm glad you're home," he murmured quietly, hands squeezing.
Suzuki always made everything better. Always.
The arm around her was soothing and she twined her fingers with his, very happily. Her thumb stroked over his hand and she settled comfortably against him, her own eyes falling half closed. But she didn't close them quite yet because she hadn't see him in so very long... she wanted to see him now.
And she wanted another kiss.
So Hige simply leaned forward, pressing close and kissing him again. Quietly she murmured, "... I'm glad I'm home too."
He untangled his hand from hers then, only so he could wrap both arms around her frame to pull her in a little closer. It was highly exhilirating to feel her so close against him, with so few between them, but he did his best to remain in control, considering all that was going on. He had the kiss last a little longer after her softly spoken words, then buried his face in the space between neck and shoulder as he inhaled her scent, distinct and undeniably hers alone.
He wanted to ask how much longer he could have her, but conversations like those never ended well, and he wanted to just enjoy her presence now, hold her for as long as he could.
How much clothing anyone had on didn't even focus in her mind, didn't even cross her thoughts. All Hige could think was that it was wonderful to have him close again, to be snuggled up against him and not huddled in a cave or a ditch somewhere. This was even better then all the other times they'd been close, with her pressed tight up against him, warm and safe and... almost natural feeling. This was something, she had decided in the back of her head, that she was going to have to do again. A lot.
Just faintly she tipped her head back as he buried his face against her. A hand slid over his arm and then up his back to tangle in his hair, stroking almost. She couldn't even begin to fathom how long she had him, just focused on having him now.
If he hadn't been so focused on enjoying her presence, he probably would have fallen asleep right there in her arms. But he held on for as long as he could, his eyes shut but no where near the realm of sleep, his entire senses focused on keeping alert, and aware of her.
He wished it could be the same for her, of course, but he knew how tired she could get from these missions, so he didn't wish to keep her up any longer. He ran a hand up and down along her back, a gentle, soothing gesture, that he hoped would aid her in falling asleep. He kissed her neck softly, holding her a little tighter as he did.
That motion did make her feel relaxed, almost sleepy, and she rested against him easily, eyes falling shut. The touch against her neck was gentle too and she continued to slowly stroke his hair. Moments like this, when neither one of them needed to talk and they just remained curled up together, were what Hige craved; in a way, it was what she was fighting for. To have peace and to keep her village and loved one's safe.
She always wanted Suzuki safe.
Shifting so they could be more comfortably entangled with each other, she murmured quietly. ".... I missed you."
He was so sure that she'd been so close to sleep, that her words, even murmured quietly, startled him slightly, jerking enough that the mattress actually shifted. He pressed his lips to her brow quickly, smoothing his hand over her back again. "I missed you too," he replied honestly, before shifting just a little more closer.
"But you should rest," he murmured into her hair. "You must be exhausted."
Though truthfully, he had a bit of an ulterior motive... He wasn't exactly sure, after all, how long he could last in bed with her without doing something...
Hige tensed, sharply, as he shifted and jerked so suddenly, body instantly preparing for a fight or something dangerous. But Suzuki merely kissed her forehead and smoothed his hand back over her back again. Slowly, she eased down once more and rested against him, a soft sigh escaping her lips. It was nice to hear that he had missed her, and even nicer still to know that he was close to her. It was utterly comfortable and his voice was low and soothing.
"Mmm," she said, very softly as her eyes began to fall shut again. "... can't see you though.. if I'm asleep..."
To that, Suzuki simply grinned.
"Then it's a good thing I'll still be here in the morning," he told her softly, before his own eyes closed, his body soon relaxing.
"It is..." Hige managed to say faintly before she allowed herself to succumb to sleep. He would be there when she woke up and even if it was only a scant few hours she actually got to be with him...
It was well worth it.
