Blogathon: Cicatrix

You're out thrifting with Aaron when you think you see Melissa out of the corner of your eye. You run outside, hand slap on door and spinning around the corner, her name in your throat -

It isn't her.

Aaron catches up to you. "What-"

"I thought I saw someone. Someone I knew a long time ago."

"You seemed panicked."

"I - I need to talk to her."

He takes your hand - and pries loose the necklace that you inadvertently shoplifted. You blush deeply as he holds it aloft. "We'll pay for this, then coffee, okay?"

"Coffee, okay."

He pays the scowling shopowner and you go to the coffeeshop you saw him at that first morning. Your usual table, your usual tea.

And you find yourself telling him everything. Kai and her offer, the people who are missing or dead or maybe just home, and how much losing Jason hurts; even if he was a monster, he was your monster. He listens, and you can tell what parts wound him; you can tell where he wants to interject but doesn't. You tell him how hard it is to be here even though you love him.

It's the first time you say that. That you love him.

And oh, how he shines.
