[Jak's out of the brig. Actually, he's been out for most of the day, but after taking the time to raid the medical bay for bandages to cover his wrists and ankles, and to bind his ribs -- the Major broke quote a few in their scuffle -- he's holed himself back up in his room with Daxter.]

He doesn't even notice the other man at first, too wrapped up in his own thoughts.]

My apologies-
You.

Do I know you?

Phoenix's voice is flat.]
Amusing. Is all that dark eco starting to eat your memories, Jak? Or is absentmindedness typical of you?
Reply
How do you know my name?
[The comments about his memories make him wonder if he really should remember this man. After all, he's forgotten other things.]

A man chases me across half the Brink, shoots my airship's engines full of holes, then picks a fight with me at my own helm. I would think I would know his name.
Or, don't tell me, you've forgotten everything? Keira, the eco seeker, your pet hamster? Do stop me if I start ringing any bells.

[Jak blinks, then shakes his head.]
Wait a second ... the Brink is real?
[He'd heard mention of it in meetings to discuss the eco shortages after the war. Thanks to Praxis giving away so much eco to the Metal Heads, there was an energy crisis in both Spargus and Haven, and there had been discussions about exploring the Brink for any kind of eco source. No one had seemed particularly hopeful about the venture, and so it had been shelved as a last ditch idea.]

[Something isn't right here. There's no sarcasm, no anger, no instinctive twitch at the way Phoenix said Keira's name. Phoenix's eyes narrow.]
You really don't remember.
[In fact, something is off about Jak himself. Something about his appearance. Phoenix tilts his head.]
You have a goatee.
Reply
Had one since I could grow one.
And sorry, but I have no idea who you are.

Captain Phoenix of the Phantom Blade.
[He's watching you closely, Jak. Any movement you make, any facial expression, is being carefully noted.]
We are, or perhaps will be, temporary allies.
[Hmm. A thought. And now Phoenix is smiling cheerfully.]
Keira insisted that we get along until at least after the wedding.
[Now how will Jak react to that? That should be plenty proof enough.]
Reply
[Weird name. Jak's never heard of you.
... wait a minute!]
Wedding?! Wait ... what wedding? You're not ...
[With Keira?!]

But Phoenix is enjoying himself now, especially since there's no one there who can call him a liar.]
Of course I am, and the luckiest man alive I'll be with Keira at my side. Truly she is the most beautiful, intelligent woman I have ever met.
[Hear that, Jak? That's genuine admiration in his voice, and perhaps even the beginnings of love. If he hadn't been pulled from his world when he had, who knows where that might have led?]
For some reason, though, she thinks you would be a good choice for my best man. It's the only time I've ever questioned her judgment.

Yeah, I'll be sure to bring the confetti.
[GLARE.]
Reply
You do that.
[But even that smile fades as he considers the Jak before him. There's no alliance, no quest for the eco seeker to bind them, and from what he's heard, Jak's control is already starting to slip. But how badly? Razer had not given him any specifics.]
Still, I wonder if she would reconsider if she found out about what you did...
[What did you do, Jak, and how much guilt do you feel for it?]

What would Keira think? She already hated the dark side of him, it scared her. He knows the answer to that question already; she'd hate him. She wouldn't want anything more to do with him.]
