Went to a special tea ceremony at the Japanese house at the Philadelphia Arboretum on Saturday.
It was rainy and cold but incredibly beautiful.
I learned several things I take to heart in both my spiritual and personal lives.
1) We bow not from our heads, but from our hearts.
The Japanese bow from the waist to show respect. Thus we show respect with our whole beings, not just our brains. This is relevant on so very many levels. My relationships with the Gods are surely not intellectual. And, the physicist/mathemetician in me finds the Divine contradictory on so many levels. But, my heart bows to the Truth.
2) Buddha bows to Buddha.
Each of us acknowledges that every other one of us contains a complete image of the Divine. My divine spark acknowledges and respects yours! So beautiful!
