like emptiness in harmony

Well, I had all these grandiose plans for updating fully about every single thing that’s happened, but they were clouds in my coffee…yeah I’ve been listening to lots of old music. Right now things are really stressful cuz I have so much work (art paper=about 24 hours so far), and also lots of things I want to see in London. So little time. I don’t wanna leave.

So let’s see…Sunday the 6th of November I went to Westminster Cathedral, which is Catholic rather than Anglican. I lit 2 candles for you, Grandma and Grandpa Mahan. I hope you feel special, I hope you feel loved.

Thursday after class Karla and I left for Rome-we slept in the airport. We climbed every stair up to the top of St. Peter’s, which obviously gave us a great view of the city. In St. Peter’s we saw the Pieta, but it was far off behind glass because of that time some crazed Hungarian attacked it with a hammer. We walked around the city a lot all weekend, just letting ourselves be amazed by the architecture. I think it’s the most beautiful city in the world. Everything is so old. We slept a long time and then just walked, seeing things like the Trevi Fountain and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We kept being like, “oh look, there’s that thing…the Coliseum. Found that.” We got gelato a few times a day and every night went to a nice but not expensive restaurant to get fantastic Italian food. On Saturday our waiter was really cute and charming and we talked with him a lot. The next night we went back to meet him and he took us to a club where we drank and talked and danced. It was so much fun-he was such a gentleman. Some sleazy guy tried to pick up Karla and I thought Genti was gonna kill him. He was like, “Italians don’t respect women! Albanians are real men, they are respectful.” (he was Albanian of course) It was an amazingly fun time, and definitely made our stay in Roma so much sweeter. We saw the Coliseum, we sat on the Spanish steps, we walked through St Peter’s Square a lot, we took lots of pictures. I can tell stories in full when I see you at home.

The next weekend I went to visit Tamsin, who lives near Nottingham. She had been an exchange student when mom and dad worked with BASIC, but I hadn’t seen her since I was like 10 or 11. The trip up was hell and disoriented me very much. That night we went to a barn dance, and all night I danced with this spry old lady who had to be at least 70 or 80. It was lots of fun. The next day we went shopping and ate good food, then Tamsin and her husband Nick took me for a walk in Sherwood Forest. It was freezing cold but so beautiful. Tamsin and I baked American and British biscuits, and it was sooooo nice to be able to putter around and do dishes and make yummy things. I want to bake yummy things with you at Houghton, Lindsey, and we can give them to our friends. That night they took me to a gorgeous English pub/restaurant where I had steak and ale pie with speckled hen gravy and figgy pudding for dessert. Ye-yah. The food I was introduced to-food like Yorkshire pudding and Branston pickle, just made me want to stay even more. I cannot believe how absolutely delicious I find British food. Later that night Tamsin gave me a professional massage. Sweeeet. Sunday morning we went to their church, which I felt at home at like no other church except maybe Elim. Too bad I’ll never be there again. The train ride home. The end.

I don’t remember many interesting things that’ve happened here during the interval-I read schoolwork in the crypt of St. Martin’s-in-the-Fields where they had an art exhibit up. Sunday we went to Hillsongs church because Delirious was leading worship. They were taping it to show in 38 countries and had us pretend it was New Year’s and count down and everything. So I’ll have New Year’s twice this year-cool. Monday I went to Westminster Abbey and saw Poet’s Corner and the tomb of Elizabeth I. Huzzah!

This Friday Amy and I are going to Scotland. We’ll be in Edinburgh and Stirling, and I’m so excited!!! I have a mammoth amount of schoolwork to get done in the time we have left, and especially the next 2 days. I haven’t been getting much sleep. If I don’t communicate I’m sorry, but I have everything I can do to do well on schoolwork and hopefully still do some stuff around town.
