(=our new emo band)

So maybe it takes getting exiled from my room for a morning every week to get me to update.

On Monday night Karla, Maria, Elizabeth, and I went to see Les Miserables. The theatre it is playing in is kitty-corner to the cinema where Corpse Bride had its London premiere on Monday night. I don’t know if Johnny Depp was there, but we heard Tim Burton was. We didn’t see either of them, but we were near where they were. Les Mis was fantastic. The play was executed flawlessly (after a 20 year’s run, it should be) and the music was amazing. I can’t believe I haven’t seen it or known the story before now. Jean Valjean is such an admirable and loveable character. I would love to study the play, and learn the songs so I can hum them during a long night.

School days usually aren’t very interesting

After our art class’ trip to the National Gallery on Thursday I took my camera and walked around until supper. Well, at first Emily and I bought sandwiches at Tesco (LOVE that store!) and sat in a random park (there’s so many of them) near the Thames. We ate and talked for a few hours, then I wandered by myself. I decided that the main city is actually ridiculously small. Everything is within sight and walking distance, as long as you have time. I stayed around Leicester Square, Trafalgar, the Royal gardens, and Buckingham Palace. There was an alley of old bookshops and a little Chinatown. The Royal gardens are one of the most beautiful spots I have been. My camera takes blurry pictures when the batteries are low.

On Friday it was the 200th anniversary of the British victory of the Battle of Trafalgar, so Jeff, Amy, and I went to the National Maritime Museum to see the Nelson and Napoleon exhibit. Nelson is practically a saint here-on Sunday they prayed one of his prayers in church. It was very interesting, and the area it was in (Greenwich?) was very pretty, with wharfs and such. We spent all afternoon there.

Saturday the Quattro went to Notting Hill for the Portobello Road market. It’s only on Saturdays, and it is sooooo huge. It’s mostly antiques, fresh produce, and clothes. It was a lot of fun. I got an outfit, some strawberries, and some presents. We felt lazy when we got back so we got into pajamas and watched The Full Monty and When Harry Met Sally. Later I was online and then Karla and I watched 3 episodes of Family Guy. Yeah.

Sunday a bunch of us were supposed to go to the Templar church but only Jeff and I went. It was a very beautiful service, but definitely left me wanting more of God than I could get there. It was cool though because we used the Book of Common Prayer. Then the Quattro watched the Boondock saints, which is one of my top 10 movies and made me so happy to see again. That night a bunch of us went to HTB for the evening service and college coffee hour afterwards. I wore my new outfit and met a really nice girl from Russia.

Monday was my pilgrimage to Oxford. It was only Karla and I who went-everyone else had stolen our idea and gone on Saturday. We spent several hours sitting in the Eagle and Child at the same table the Inklings had sat at, eating and drinking. We also took pictures of Karla’s Samwise action figure for his blog, the link to which you can find at: http://samwiseinlondon.blogspot.com/ Soon it will be an internet phenomenon. Don’t miss the boat. We walked around forever outside of Oxford trying to find Tolkien’s grave, and even it was frustrating to be lost again we were laughing so hard at everything we must’ve looked drunk. Among other things, we were thinking of running up to the next person we saw and shouting “FRODO LIVES!”, chomping on the wildflowers we had picked, and running off. We finally got to the graveyard and the gates were locked and it said it closed at 3. Well, we didn’t come all that way to be turned off by a couple of big iron bars with spikes on the top. We found a place where we only had one fence to get through instead of two, and broke into the cemetery. We had actually broken in right behind the grave, but we didn’t know that so we wandered around for a few minutes jumping at every sound, afraid of getting arrested before we saw the grave. We found another gate that was OPEN and said that it didn’t close until 6, and we were ticked off. It doesn’t matter, we still were fanatics who broke into the cemetery to see Tolkien’s grave, even if the place was bloody open after all. We found it and put our wildflowers on it, and it was special. All hail, my hero.

I don’t remember which day it was, but Geezer sent me two HUGE 1kg Cadbury chocolate bars. I wish you could’ve seen the joy that sparked here, Geezer. We shared the first one among us while we were watching a movie. It was soooooo good. Thank you so much for that.

Camille, if you read this, I hope you enjoyed my birthday message and I will hopefully send out your package tomorrow. I love you!
