Today I had the most amazing experience of my entire life up to this point, and it's gonna take a heck of a lot to beat it. Maria went skydiving this summer and she said the rush was about the same. We went to The Globe Theatre to see Pericles, and it was the best show ever. it was so well done, so emotionally intense, so physically captivating (try like 12 acrobat/actors swinging around on ropes from the ceiling re-enacting the wind and waves of a storm). And people, I was leaning on the stage the whole time, that's how close i was!!! the actors almost stepped on me several times. The people who pay to stand in the pit and watch the show near the stage are called Groundlings---weeeehoooweeeyooohoyooooweeeooo!!!!!!!! ():-) It's an open-aire theatre and it was raining, and it's the theatre that shakespeare used, and let's just say that by the end i was crying a little and shaking violently and temporarily incapable of intelligible speech. I was so, so happy and excited, i was glowing for hours.
Also tonight I went "drinking" for the first time. Some of the girls and I went to a pub near Oxford Circus. One of them ordered me a shot of peach liquor in orange juice to start off--I couldn't even taste the alcohol in it. i tried all of their beers and stuff, then we all got shots and downed them, that was fun. They had vodka but i had coconut rum---ooohhhh sooo goood! :-) i was a little lightheaded, talking a little loudly, and it felt like my pulse was racing, but aside from that i remained the soberest one in the group. of course, the other girls were only a little tipsy and more giggly than usual, we only had a little.
Some people were asking about this so here's what my classes are like. Monday we take an hour-long tube ride to the London School of Theology, where we have our own classroom set aside for History of Islam in the morning. We have a coffee break, go to chapel, and go to lunch, all with the other students in the school. Then in the afternoon we have Luke's Two Volumes (advanced Bible, Luke and Acts), with a professor who is crazy and fun. Wednesday we have a 1/2 hour or less tube ride to the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity, where we have Dramatic Lines, a theatre and art apologetics course. Thursday we go to the same place for Art in Europe Since the Renaissance. friday morning we meet here at the FMC for Dr. Airhart's class, Global Christianity. He's the prof from Houghton in charge of the program--the others are British profs who have taught these classes year after year for our program. It's been fun, though 3 hour classes are pretty intense.
I've been taking a few pictures, so soon I'll try to put them up on a website for y'all. It's now 3am, and I'm going to bed. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night...
