My mother, who, despite that we live in the same city, talk regularly, and in general like each other, tends to assume that I won't tell her things. Every month or so she usually "subtly" asks if there's been any "change" in my relationship with my boyfriend. This could mean breaking up OR getting engaged. The last time I talked to her on the phone she just flat out asked if we'd gotten married. Not engaged: married. I've got to be the only person who has to repeatedly explain that yes, if I so happened to elope, I will mention it, I promise.
I sometimes wonder if my mom and her brothers have a betting pool going on which one of us (my cousins, including me) is going to get married first, however. I really wouldn't put it past them.
Speaking of my mother, my boyfriend and I went over to her house for dinner tonight. Somehow the topic of children and childrearing came up and my mom put in her opinion on how well we'd do as parents.
MOM: I think you two could manage to raise a child to adulthood without killing it, and really that's all you can ask.
ME: Way to have high standards.
:shakes head: This is like the time she told me that I'd be the first to resort to cannibalism in a survival situation.
wtf,
family fun,
