Changing the molecules in coffee required you to replicate the taste, which I imagine is very difficult to visualize. Your hair, however, shouldn't be any more difficult than an outfit.
I'm confident enough in your ability that I would even completely approve of your pooch practicing, though I'm certain it wouldn't be necessary.
If you were really attempting something wild, you could probably cut and reattach your hair with your powers as well, though that might be more risky.

Also, my hair's dark and I'd have to bleach it first, even to use a temporary dye and there is just so much of it! Hair, I mean.
