Her first inclination is Edna somehow escaped the apartment, but as she pets the cat, she realizes it's a smaller cat and the meows are different. Orenji? Ah, that makes sense, what with his very odd teleporting ways. Gently scooping the cat back ( Read more... )

Always liked cats.

Not always been a mutual thing, though.

Cats tend to be very finicky creatures. You can never tell if they like you or not.

[Smelling like a wolf usually doesn't help, either.]

So. I take it that around here, 'sent home' ain't some preacher nonsense about heaven.

Sounds like we should be celebrating for that friend of yours, don't you think?

[This is his attempt at subtle cheering up. Don't ask him to be direct, he will be.]

Means exactly what it says; people are sent back to wherever they came from.

...I suppose so. Wish him the best. Him and all the others that left recently.

Well, ain't so hot for folk left behind, sure, but. Ain't we supposed to be happy for friends or something like that?

What do people around here do to celebrate, anyway? Other than ridiculously big parties with far too many people I never met?

Yes, we are. For the... well, yes and no. Not everyone is better off in their world. [Not everyone is alive.] But... well.

Parties are the norm depending on the occasion. Otherwise a good dinner and some drinks at the bar or nightclub?

[He can believe that.] Still, a body can hope, can't it? Important thing, hope.

Well, I was thinking something a little more down to Earth. You run the nightclub, so no one can yell at you for having a drink to honor friends, right, Sugar?

Hope is the thing with feathers.

Course not, though I'll need help getting there first.

That perches in the soul.

Dickinson. Massachusetts. Yankee as deep as you. If Liam hadn't written a report on her last year, Sugar, I'd have been lost. Sorry.

Well. Impolite though it may be to ask so abruptly, Sugar, as a gentleman, as a fellow human being who has, at one time or another, suffered loss, might I inquire as to where exactly it is I might find you in order to provide such an escort?

And if that was too much, then Sugar, where in the name of bourbon are you?

No worries. Not the biggest poetry reader, but that one has always stuck with me.

[That earns a laugh, short, but genuine and amused.]

Community Building seven, we're the one just south east of the plaza. Fifth floor, room 22.

See? Better already.

[Those directions earn a rather amused snort.]

South. And East. Pretty easy, in retrospect.

You can also follow the smell of horses and hay. We're by the stables.

[Actually...a lot more helpful than he'll let on; a man should know the directions.]

That's fine, Sugar. Let me go on about finding that coat I decided I liked.

No problem. I'll wait outside for you.

Hope you don't mind if I take my dog with me. Girl needs protection and all. [You can hear the smirk in her voice.] Don't want to leave the poor boy cooped up inside either.
