Job 001 :: The Arrival Job [Written/Action] {Backdated to the morning of July 5th}

[Waking up in an unknown area - a forest - with all of her clothes and belongings missing, face down in the dirt officially made the morning count as "one of those mornings". It hadn't been the first time it'd happened - hunters were a lot of pranksters when it came to their own - so Ginia couldn't be that surprised by it, but the problem was she ( Read more... )

1.) No one knows how or why - no one has any memory of arriving (that I know of), only of going from their world to this one. There should be a map in the guide [And here a link appears that, if followed, will cause the pages to turn to the map in question] but if you could provide me with any landmarks of your location, I might be able to provide more help. There are New Feather centers scattered around the forest, if you could find one.

2.) Messages can be filtered towards or away from certain individuals. The Malnosso can listen in on any conversation, regardless of filtering.

3.) Hovering, with practice. No flight. Malnosso attach upon arrival - something about this place makes them compulsory. Soreness should dissipate after a day or so. Damaging them will result in serious illness, removal will result in death. Sorry.

4.) Library, Good Spirits (bar), Seventh Heaven (restaraunt), Battle Dome (training center), Welcome Center (resting place and information center). No currency is used, all supplies are provided for free by the Malnosso. Housing is applied for at the Welcome Center.

5.) No one knows for certain. When people are sent home, it happens without warning and no one has been able to determine a pattern.

((ooc: Before she arrives in town, if that's okay?))

1) Then may I safely assume most people simply wake up in this place with new clothing and wings on their back and answerless. [She's seen the guide and map, but refers back to it still, pausing to check her surroundings.] Not much save a lot of trees, but I've been advised to follow rivers upstream toward the village, which I'm doing so now.

2) Definitely something I'll have to put some time into learning. Big Brother is always watching. Can you tell me anything about the Malnosso that hasn't been covered by the guide?

3) Hovering, that's very interesting. I was thinking the wigs weren't anatomically suited for flight, but a light hover is something. Everyone has wings, no exceptions?

4) Can you tell me what kind of books are at the library?

5) Only as they will it. A strange forced captivity. May I ask how long you've been here?

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, sir. Your help is greatly appreciated.

1. Until they figure out the journal or are found by other villagers? Yes. No memory of the transition from one world to another, no memory of being brought over by the Malnosso and having the wings attached.

Fortunately, the journals will sometimes turn themselves to ensure that new arrivals are found.

Following the river is good - that's how I first found my way, and that's how I generally advise New Feathers to get here.

2. Not much that I would feel safe imparting over the journals for the above mentioned reasons. I can offer you my own speculations and a few bits and pieces, however.

3. Everyone. Even those villagers that are animals are given wings upon arrival. It's what you might call compulsory - the Malnosso have wings of their own with the same properties as our wings. I would imagine we're given them in order to better facillitate the Malnosso gathering data from the experiments performed on us.

4. Anything relating to Luceti as a world is quite scarce, if that's what you're wondering. Otherwise, it's decently stocked with books on various subjects from various worlds.

5. We aren't certain if they're the ones who will it, actually.

And it depends on which point you're referring to - I've been brought here twice, sent back once between times.

I like to help where I can. Explaining the horrible and bizarre used to be my job, back home.

1) A very curious thing. It certainly makes for a very effective kidnapping.

2) Speculation and bits and pieces are greatly accepted when you have nothing to go off on. I'd be very curious about your opinion on things. Perhaps we can meet at some point to discuss things?

3) I've read about these experiments. Anything you'd like to add or is that a topic best talked about at another time?

4) I was. I suppose it'd be too easy if we were provided any sort of reading material on the present situation. Though I am curious about books from other worlds. It's quite the fascinating idea.

5) Really? Did you remember your time here even after you were returned home?

That sounds like a very interesting job you have. May I ask what world you come from?

1.) The most effective, I should imagine - being able to remember how you got to your strange new environments is generally the downfall of most kidnappers. Of course, the fact that they can't hold on to us indefinitely - or even be certain how long we'll stay - is probably a bit of a downside.

2.) I'd be happy to meet. There's a Welcome Center in the village, or a restaraunt if you're hungry. I would also recommend the fountain - it's in the plaza, and hard to miss. [If Ginia should check the map, she will find circles drawn around all of these locations.]

3.) Average length is a week. They can take literally any form. Some affect the body, some affect the mind, some affect both. Large swathes of the village will generally be affected at a time, although generally not all. They will all be affected in a similar fashion, although not necessarily the same fashion. They generally occur at the end of the month (although the last one occurred a week early).

4.) It is, and I've learned a lot while here. A pity, because that leads me to

5.) No. Not even a second had passed when I returned, and I didn't have the faintest idea that I'd been gone. I did start to remember my first time here when I was brought back, however.

Earth, 2007 A.D. Born in England, spent about seven years in California, spent the last several months before I was brought here traveling Europe. Any of that sounding familiar?

1) The part I find most fascinating is, well, if we're all brought here from different worlds and times, it means the Malnosso or whoever is actually bringing us here possesses some ability to cross over to other worlds. In theory at least. Maybe I've read too much science-fiction.

2) I think I'll take a visit to the Welcome Center, I'd like to pick up or at least copy a map for myself. Though what kind of the food does the restaurant serve?

3) That's quite fascinating, sort of like a mass social experiment or something. I'm not sure I'd really want to see or experience one, but I don't doubt I will in some form. What happened last time?

4, 5) So in many ways, nothing is lost then as far as time goes. Or anything. That's something that requires a little more thinking on. Sorry, I'm beginning to digress now.

Yes, all of it, actually. Earth, 2011 A.D., born in Davenport, Massachusetts, been traveling around for a bit as well.

1.) Multiple theories exist on that particular front. All we have so far are theories, I'm afraid.

2.) I would advise a trip to the Welcome Center, yes. Although the journal's map should suffice for most purposes, it has a larger map up on the wall you might want to reference. Seventh Heaven is quite diverse in its selections - the same goes for Good Spirits, the bar. After all, we have to accomodate individuals of several different species from several different worlds.

Writing over the journals is good for digressing, so I wouldn't mind meeting if you wouldn't. How about I meet you outside the Welcome Center.

3.) The experiments aren't always easy to explain, or even identify. In my time, here, I have:

-Been teleported all over the place (twice)
-Driven insane with hallucinations while simultaneously being dressed as Bela Lugosi
-Made to believe I led a different life (twice)
-Suffered from a reverse telepathy that allowed everyone to read my thoughts
-Turned into a vampire
-Turned into a dragon
-Last month was a bit hard to quantify, I'm afraid. All we could really determine was that everyone's personality had been modified in specific but key fashions.

I can safely say that nothing is lost as far as time. Or experience. Personal timelines are unaffected by what we do and learn here.

So, if we're from different worlds, they aren't markedly different. That's always nice.

1) It's a starting place.

2) There's an odd comfort knowing no matter the location or civilization, there is always a place to go for some food and a good drink. Though do you mind expanding on what species are around here?

I would not mind meeting at all. I estimate it'll be another -- measurements of time, anything I should know about them? The average length of a day?

3) My, that is quite the list. I'll have to keep that in mind.

So what is done here has no bearing on what happens in our homes and vice-versa.

Yes, an odd comfort. I'd like to compare notes about our homes, if you don't mind.

2.) One cat, a few anthropomorphic turtles, a couple of vampires, [...] I've heard rumors about an angel or two, a dragon, an mechanical girl, and a few demons. Off the top of my head.

Measurements of time match those on Earth - and, from what I've managed to gather, are the norm for several other worlds as well. The counting of the years might throw you a bit - I believe the Luceti New Year is actually at some point around October.

3.) It isn't at all comprehensive. This experiment was going on for a little over three years before I arrived.

I wouldn't mind comparing notes. Just send me a message when you're near the village.

2) Quite the variety. I'll have to keep these things in mind.

Good to know, that was one thing that wasn't mentioned in the guide. I suppose I'll be closer to the village in an hour or so then.

3) Do you you know if there are people that have been here for the full three years? I can't imagine it'd be a large number, but it seems they'd be worth talking to for information.

Of course. Though I should warn you ahead of time I am mute. Hence all the writing.

Albert Silverburg and Raine Sage have been in the village the longest - around four years by now. I don't know if that means they've been here since the beginning - it's not something I ever got around to asking - but they have been here the longest.

[...blink. Oh.]

I appreciate the warning. Would you prefer that I stuck to writing as well, then?

I may have to speak with them at some point, if they didn't mind. Raine Sage, she's the one who wrote the guide, correct?

Please feel free to speak, I don't mind at all. I wouldn't want to inconvenience you.

Precisely. She also teaches at the local school. Albert, for his part, is [...] probably the closest thing we have to a direct liason with the Malnosso.

I appreciate the consideration, Miss Solana. I suppose I'll see you in about an hour, then?

Is there an age limit for the school? The courses seem quite fascinating, though I'm afraid I may be too old. Though I must ask. Music lessons with Frederic Chopin?

Please, just Ginia. And yes, I'll let you know when I am close.

Not sure about the school itself - it recently let out for the year. However, Frederic was just asking around for new students about a week ago. How old are you, if you don't mind my asking?

Ginia, then. Giles is fine, for my part.

Sad to hear, though it makes sense, it is summer. Really? That's something I might look into, though I must ask. Frederic Chopin. The Frederic Chopin? And no worries, I'm 30.

Again, a pleasure to meet you.
