Sun Shines Overhead - I'd be There to See It, but I Can't Get Out of Bed

It's a warm day and the half of the sidewalk in the sun is painfully bright. I can smell tar from the street and the air wavers above it. It's like the asphalt might start bubbling at any moment and turn into a giant, black river. I walk down the half of the sidewalk under the shade, right next to the wooden fence. The fence towers above me and I can just catch flickering glimpses of whatever is behind it through the gaps. I walk a little faster, trying to make out the scene on the other side. It doesn't really work. Ahead is the corner of my street. I'm nearly home - unfortunately. I'm just going to have to practice piano and do chores.

Suddenly, there's a whooshing sound and I'm hit by a blast of hot air. A tornado forms around me. I squint at first, but the air stings my eyes. I close them. It's only seconds before everything is quiet again. I open my eyes and look around. It's as if nothing had happened and everything's just as it was before. Well, except for the giant blue box in front of me. I've seen the show, so I already know what it is.

The door creeks open and the Doctor steps out alone, wearing his trademark trenchcoat, suit, and trainers. He's taller than I imagined, but then again, I'm just a kid now.

"Doctor!" I say, surprised because... well, he's not supposed to be there in my dream about the first house I could remember living in. "What are you doing here?"

"Well..." he begins, drawing out the word in that way he does when he's either about to launch into technobabble or say something stupidly simple. "Actually, I'm not sure," he says with a slightly confused expression as he looks around as if he doesn't expect himself to be there any more than I do.

"Where's this?" he asks.

"Near my old house."

"Oh."

He shrugs to himself, turns around, and begins to head back into the TARDIS. He probably just hit the wrong frob or something trying to get to London.

"Wait!" I call. You don't get a chance like this every day, especially when you'd otherwise have to go home and be forced to practice piano and do chores.

The Doctor turns.

"Can I come?"

"Oh, you don't want to leave this," he says, gesturing at the neighbourhood before shoving his hands in his pockets. "The sun, the houses... the ice cream trucks," he adds brightly. Sure enough, in the distance, I can hear the familiar happy tune of the ice cream truck. Yes, I do want to leave, I tell him, because I still don't want to have to practice piano or do chores, and besides, I'm never allowed to get ice cream.

So, he makes a deal with me. He'll take me to explore all of time and space, but only after I've seen all the amazing, wonderful things on planet Earth. He then leaves in the TARDIS and I continue my walk home.

Somewhat cliche, but still a kind of cool dream. Guess I better get started...
