Had a great day in parkour today. Been working hard to build up strength, but generally I never seem to get anywhere. It seems like it's actually helping after today, though.
Obstacle course was different this time. Stuff was just scattered all over the room at random angles with no particular moves in mind. This made it a lot harder and required a lot more creativity and improvisation. While running it, though, I had this zen moment for the first time in parkour, and everything was just clicking, obstacles were nothing but stepping stones, and it felt like I was flying. Completely amazing experience.
End time was 13.25 seconds, which I thought I misheard at first because the second best time (by this guy who is REALLY good), was 45 seconds. The instructor's time was 10 seconds, which I think I might have been able to actually match if I didn't mess up on this one kong (my foot hooked on the obstacle as I was going over it. I bailed out fine, but it killed my momentum) and if I'd strided this one part instead of going to a broad jump.
Also worked on climb-ups, which I've always had trouble with. Been practicing a lot and it's helped, though. I still have to do them asymmetrically, but I'm getting closer to doing the faster method. Also learned some footwork I'm eager to try later. Once I get it down, it should really improve my ability to get on top of stuff faster and with less energy.
Tic tacs were great, strangely, because I suck at those. Managed to get as far as kicking off a small pole and precisioning 6-7 feet after. Got to 8 or 9 feet without the precision by doing a 2-step wall-run with a spin and landing in a PK roll, which sounds needlessly complicated, but turns out to actually flow very naturally and add lots of distance. If I can get better at that, I think I'll be able to bounce a lot further off of walls.
We also tried backflips. Unfortunately, I still can't do flips. I've been trying forever but I always freak out in the middle, flail, and crash. I know it's a mental thing but I just can't get over being terrified of them. I can't even do backflips underwater because being upside down while going backwards freaks me out so much. I think I still got further than I ever did, though.
Feeling good, have more energy than I thought. That's good because poi is in a few hours.
