Took a day for myself today. Went to the movies. Actually went and saw two new movies today at different theaters.
I saw Inkheart at the East side theater since it wasn't showing at the one near my house. I have to say it was a great film. A nice family fantasy film that none of my family wanted to go see with me. But that's okay it's about books and reading and writing.
Brendon Frasier does a good job as Mo. I'd heard that he was Cornelia Funke's choice for the part, that she was very insistent on him for the role. And I can see it, good choice that. Paul Bettany as Dustfinger is also a good fit. He plays the part well. And there is also Dame Helen Mirren as Great Aunt Elinor. Wonderfully amusing. Andy Serkis as Capricorn had me in stitches.
Overall I'd say this was a worthwhile movie, especially for anyone who loves reading, books and stories.
The second movie I saw was Underworld:Rise of the Lycans. It was showing at the theater by my house which is slightly cheaper so I went there for it. A very different sort of fantasy from Inkheart. I consider myself a fan of the world created for the Underworld movies, yet I thought both of the first two could have been done better, story-wise. This third film, I think is the best as well as my favorite one.
The story and visuals are what I think make it the best of the series. The fact that it focuses on the Lycans(werewolves) instead of the vampires is why I consider it my favorite. I admit that I am sick of vampires, zombies as well, and would love to proclaim a moratorium on them. For at least ten years. No books, movies, tv shows, nothing. But I do not have that power. So instead I'll enjoy watching werewolves ripping them to shreds.
So a day spent watching two different, yet enjoyable films at the theaters. Just the thing I was needing.
