Obese U.S. mom has brain surgery for weight loss

Brain surgery for weight loss?  West Virginia mother of two Carol Poe, 60, is only the second person in the United States to undergo deep brain stimulation for weight loss after trying everything from diets to having her stomach stapled.  Last month, she took part in a clinical trial at West Virginia University hospital in which neurosurgeons drilled into her brain and used electricity to control her feelings of hunger and satisfaction.  Poe, 5 ft 2 in and who weighed 230 pounds before the surgery, said that at her heaviest she weighed about 490 pounds.  Dr Julian Bailes, chairman of West Virginia University's department of neurosurgery, said Poe was a good candidate for the radical treatment.  Bailes told Reuters that the West Virginia University hospital was the only one in the United States, and the only center he knew of worldwide, using the deep brain stimulation technique specifically on obese patients.

I just will never understand how ppl get that fat.  Just getting to 130 pounds makes my body feel lousy and makes getting around more difficult.  I cannot imagine how horrible these ppl are making themselves feel day in and day out by cramming so much junk down their throats.

Warm weather could cause migraines

Warmer weather and changes in atmospheric pressure may trigger headaches and migraines, rather than pollution, researchers said Monday.  A U.S. research team showed that each temperature increase of 5 degrees Celsius -- about 9 degrees Fahrenheit -- appeared to increase the risk of severe headaches by nearly 8 percent compared to days when the weather was cooler.  Air temperature, humidity and barometric pressure are often cited as a reason for headaches but until now there has been little concrete evidence to back this, Kenneth Mukamal of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and colleagues said.

GEE YA THINK???  I could have told them that years ago.

NY man claims NJ psychic defrauded him of $250,000

A New York man is suing a New Jersey psychic, claiming she defrauded him of nearly $250,000 he paid her to craft a golden statue that was supposed to ward off negativity. Charles Silveira, 38, of Seaford, Long Island, claims he never received the statue.  On Monday, he filed suit in New Jersey Superior Court in Morristown seeking to recover the money from 32-year-old Ava Miller of Mendham. Silveira also wants Miller removed from a $700,000 home he bought for her last year.  The lawsuit claims that Silveira met Miller online in 2007, and that he made several large cash payments to her over a period of several months.

I predict he will continue to be a gullible idiot in the future.

Man with ice cream in pants offers owner $69

What would you do for a Klondike bar? Authorities said a man shoved an ice cream bar down his pants and then offered a Texaco station store owner $69 not to turn him in for shoplifting. The owner told police that a 65-year-old man tried to sneak the Klondike bar, along with packages of Ramen noodles and Famous Amos cookies, out of the store without paying Tuesday night.  When the store owner confronted the man as he tried the leave the store, the owner reported that the man pulled the flattened ice cream snack out of his back pocket and offered the owner $69 for it.
