Ex-Calif. bookkeeper accused of embezzling $10M
A former bookkeeper embezzled $9.9 million, forcing her company to make layoffs as she bought 400 pairs of shoes that she kept in a room-sized closet decorated with a crystal chandelier and a plasma television, authorities claim. Annette Yeomans, 51, surrendered at the Vista jail on Friday and was booked for investigation of grand theft and embezzlement. She was being held Saturday at the San Diego County jail in lieu of $10 million bail. It was not immediately clear whether she had an attorney. Authorities allege that Yeomans embezzled the money from 2001 to 2007 while she was chief financial officer for Quality Woodworks, Inc., a cabinetry business in San Marcos. She spent at least $240,000 on 400 pairs of shoes, $300,000 on designer clothing and 160 purses valued at $2,000 each, investigators allege. She also remodeled a bedroom into a closet with the chandelier and a 32-inch TV, they said.
Shoes I will never understand why anyone would want so many shoes.
Noise From Hearing Aid Causes Dog To Attack
An 86-year-old woman was badly injured in a freak animal attack Tuesday. When her hearing aid fell out of her ear, it beeped so loudly the family dog attacked her outside a home in the Hunters Creek subdivision. The dog has been quarantined for at least ten days of monitoring and the 86-year-old victim's injuries are being described as severe. The black dachshund mix named Sammie was still dazed and squirmy as his owner tried to load him into Animal Services' truck after the attack. Just minutes earlier, the owner says the high-pitched squeal of a hearing aid sent the dog into a vicious attack on an elderly woman who lived in the home. Kevin Robertson saw the family waiting for the ambulance. "She was just out on the ground and she was probably in shock. It looked like she was in shock," he said. The victim's family said she had just let the dog out of the front door her and was in the front yard, bending over to leash the dog up. That's when her hearing aid fell out, hitting the ground and letting off a high squeal that can irritate even the human ear. But the noise, which is actually microphone feedback, was apparently enough to send Sammie into a violent frenzy.
Hearing New way to get rid of irritating elderly ppl in your entourage - just buy them a dog and a hearing aid!
Mobile phones may be source of hospital infections
Mobile phones used by hospital healthcare workers are often contaminated with germs, including those that can causes illness in hospitalized patients, a Turkish research team reports. Dr. Fatma Ulger and others at Ondokuz Mayis University, Samsun, swabbed the dominant hand and the mobile phones of 200 doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff working in intensive care units and operating rooms. They found that 95 percent of telephones were contaminated, often with more than one type of microbe, and often with antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Potentially serious infectious bugs such as staphylococci were isolated from phones in intensive care units, the team reports in the online BMC journal Annals of Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobials.
Phones Porkie this one was for you - I guess that answers your long standing question.
