A crappy long weekend

I should probably figure out how many long weekends Japan has. Because it feels like quite a lot. I remember in highschool beginning to think that we couldn't go 3 weeks without running into a statutory holiday or a ped day (Interesting aside: the term ped day appears to maybe be an Anglo-Montreal regionalism. pedagogical day is the full term. ped day was common use outside Montreal as well.

I'd believe it might be a Quebec term, used possibly because of the French, I'm just sure it's not a Montreal-specific term.

I think you figured it out. Journee pedagogique probably grew into pedagogical days for Anglo-Quebec.

So what did you call days when teachers go into school to prepare lesson plans and whatnot but students don't attend?

PD (professional development) days. Sounds pretty similar ;-)
