Day 7
In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs.
Humour: I don't generally care for 'cracky' humour (though, there is the occasional exception to that), but I adore humour that arises from snark and sniping, and just the characters being themselves.
First times: I love fics where they figure it out or take a chance for the first time.
Outside POV: I adore fics where we see our characters from an outsider's point of view.
Here are a few examples:
POI:
A Perpendicular Expression - this one is hilarious!
SGA:
Mer and The Colonel - first time AND funny!
Welcome to Atlantis - xover with Generation kill and told from Ray's perspective; absolutely hysterical.
Day 8
In your own space, create a love meme for yourself. Let people tell you how amazing and awesome and loveable you really are.
Oh, man. *blush* Ok, well if anyone wants to tell me something awesome about me, feel free. I would love to hear it if there is any story or song I have written that has resonated with anyone, or if there was ever a post I made, or something I said that was really cool or inspirational.
Day 9
In your own space, talk about what surprises you about fandom. It could be a pairing or fandom you never thought you'd like. A fanwork type you never knew existed.
Actually, McShep was my big surprise. I often find myself wondering about pairings in a show, both the ones that are being presented as a given or seem apparent because of the chemistry. I shipped Buffy and Spike, Parker and Jarod, Riker and Deanna, Spock and Chapel; when I started watching SGA, I automatically tried Sheppard/Weir on for size. It just never fit for me. Then I tried him with Teyla, and still got a no. So I tried visualizing Rodney with them and when I stopped laughing, I was stumped. What just kept grabbing me in that show was the friendship between the two men, the camaraderie, the snippy little comments - and suddenly, I was seeing the subtext everyone had been talking about. I guess that's when I donned my first pair of slash goggles.
So yeah, that's what surprised me. I never slashed anyone before SGA. I never thought I would. Who knew?
