Busy, busy, busy

How is it a week off can feel like both forever and no time at all?

We had a very busy week. I had a sudden yen to do more baking because we mailed off almost everything we made in Christmas packages. Not that we really *NEEDED* any more baking, but I was worried some of the stuff I made before was going stale, even though we packed in in the freezer right away, and I wanted some new stuff to give people here are home.

I made sponge toffee for the first time ever, and WOW is that ever easy to make! I broke it up and dipped the pieces in chocolate, which isn't hard at all, but is rather time consuming. But wow, tasty. I will be making that again next year, for sure!

Jazzy and I went around the co-op and handed out cards and cookie bags on Christmas eve. It was actually a lovely, crisp day - it was nice not to get rained on whilst out and about delivering goodies.

We did something a little different and made Prime Rib roast for Christmas dinner this year. I have been doing turkey for Christmas for over 20 years, but Jazzy wanted something else and so we decided on this. Man, beef is $$$. It was $70 for the roast - I could have bought 3 turkeys for that price! On the flip side, everyone thought it was fantastic. Even the boy, who previously thought he didn't like roast; he discovered that actually, he's like me - he only likes really expensive cuts of beef.

Cards! I got cards in the mail from fenchurche and admnaismith - thank you!

It's been nice to see all the fics in sga-santa, but sadly, I understand why the mods are retiring it this year. When I looked back a few years, I saw stories typically getting anywhere between 30 and 50 comments where many from this year only have 6 or 8. And it must be exceedingly frustrating to have to manage so many last minute pinch hits when people don't get their stories turned in.

I'm sad that SGA is a dying fandom. I still love Atlantis, the SGC, Team Sheppard, McKay and his Hail Mary saves. I know there aren't many of us left, but I think the folks who remain are pretty awesome, and I'm glad there are still stories being told, even if they are fewer and farther between.

For any of the McShep folks who don't already know, melagan is running romancingmcshep again this year. So jump in and join the fun!
