Shiny! New! Toys!

I went out and bought Christmas prezzies on Friday. And really, I am crazy since I have no idea how long this contract will be lasting, but I would likely have done it anyway. Retail therapy, why do you feel so good when you are so bad for me?

Also, I figured it was better to spend money on electronics than to buy ciggarettes, which has been a serious temptation the last few weeks. Even though I am loving this job (or maybe it's because I love this job) I am feeling the stress of the anticipcation of the soon to be here day when they tell me my services are no longer required.

Did I mention that I am craving a smoke? OMG, I have no words to express it. WANT.

Yeah. So, a Wii with extra controllers and a Mario game it was. And a cheap .mp3 player for MonkeyBoy, because he's going to put it through the washing machine. It's inevitable. He's put last year's mp3 player through the washing machine and dryer twice - after the first time, it was still usable as a memory stick, but it's totally dead now. And he's put no less that 4 memory sticks through the wash in the last year, possibly more. It's a testament to the toughness of Kingston flash drives that 2 of them still worked afterward. Sort of.

Also, I bought for myself the only thing that I have really *really* wanted besides a laptop in the lsat 10 years or so - I have coveted them whenever I saw them, and generally end up using my laptop as one 80% of the time - I bought an eReader.

For me, Kindle wasn't an option because of Amazon's stupid international agreements (hello, Canada). I looked at the Fictionwise eBook reader, which was a lot cheaper, but much older technology and I wasn't sure that it was compatible with vista. I looked at other things on the market that didn't have really great reviews just to make sure I didn't glomp onto the first shiny thing I found, but I kept coming back to the Sony 505. So that's what I bought.

It's my christmas pressie to myself, but I'm not waiting. I have already bought a number of books that were on my list to buy and loaded it up. And the best part - I would probably have to say, actually, the PRIMARY reason that I bought it - is the fact that it can read .doc and .rtf and .pdf files. So I can upload fic. OMG. You have no idea how HAPPY that makes me.

As if that wasn't enough, you can put .mp3s on it. I could upload podfic! Dear god, I'm having a ficgasm just thinking about it.

Ahh, Future Shop, with your shiny red in-store credit card, and your 3 month no pay, you are my kryptonite. I ran before I got sucked into the back to look at the mini laptops, cuz I have been thinking about getting one of those for GirlyGirl, and it's just another $300-$400 that I'm not ready to spend just now.

Plus, she wants a laptop she could use for gaming (she's a WoWer) and I'm not prepared to sink a lot of money into getting a laptop outfitted for that.

So. Here's hoping that they keep me till at least, say, Christmas. That would be nice. And if they don't, well. I'll deal with that then I suppose.

christmas, shopping
