Saturday morning I headed down to Seattle with
hsifyppah and
drfilk. The incomparable
banjoplayinnerd was hosting a house filk and since we were all heading out from Vancouver, it made sense to come down together.
Note to self:
When heading across the border on a sunny holiday weekend, leave no later than 6:30 am. When tacking I5 construction issues on to that, leave at 5:30am.
It took us 7 1/2 hours to get there. ::cries:: But. At least I had amusing company for the ride. And caffeine. Having enough caffeine will fix almost anything.
It was fabulous to see everyone again - I've been missing folks since Norwescon. I really enjoy having the chance to hang out and sing with other filkers, and I don't get to do it often enough. I have been getting some of my filk addiction (and SGA geeking) needs met through hanging out with
hsifyppah, but alas, there are never enough hours in the week.
The lovely and talented
carmiel and
raishaan did some fantastic stuff. Those two really need to put together a CD. I got to sing Last Battle with
kendaer, which was nice since I rarely do that song anymore and I really like it.
As always,
banjoplayinnerd was a gentlemen and
redheadedbrat was a delight, the whole family making everyone feel very welcome. Even the smalls who scampered in from time to time were very well behaved - at one point, a little pixie asked for songs about the moon, and we came up with lots of those.
It just figures that the weekend I go to Seattle for the day, I would get an email from
moosaic4 letting me know that
cinder_mum is going to be stuck in Vancouver overnight and could she please stay with us. Why of course, I emailed back (yay laptops and wireless internet access! OMG! Love them SO! MUCH!) and let her know the kids would be back from the Children's Festival after 7pm-ish and she should call then.
I called home while we were driving to see if
cinder_mum was there yet, and while in mid conversation, Jazzy girl's voice changed. I thought it was just the weird vagaries of cell service to a moving vehicle driving through the mountains but I was wrong. Turned out that
pondside was here and shushed Jazzy and got her to hand over the phone so I didn't know who the heck I was talking to. Gah!
::gives
pondside the hairy eyeball::
You, missy, made me wonder if I was going nuts for a few moments there. And considering how close I already am to that line... it was all part of your evil plot, wasn't it? Don't think I haven't caught on to you. There will be payback.
::cue maniacal laughter here::
Sadly,
pondsidecinder_mum and
solomons_pond were all gone before I got up Sunday morning, so I never even had a chance to say, "Hi! Bye!" but it's only a little over a month till
Pondfilk, so I'll still get my chance.
Speaking of Pondfilk... it's hard to believe that we're at Pondfilk 8 already. And I am happy to say that I have had the privilege of being at every one of them. It's because of
pondside and
solomons_pond that I got to meet neat-o GoHs like
Puzzlebox, the
Bohnhoffs,
Steve Macdonald,
Blake Hodgetts and
Joe Bethancourt. Plus, I've gotten to know so many filkers all because they came out to Pondfilk. It's the bestest little filk relaxicon around.
::yawn::
I don't *wanna* go to bed. *whine* But I'm tired so I have to. Bleh. I was *this close* to falling asleep during training today. Yes, yet more training. We are being trained to take tier 3 calls, but we remain tier 1 agents. Which kinda sucks. Oh well. What can you do?
Vamp up your resume and start job hunting. Which I think may be on the agenda for the near future judging on how people have been dropping like flies at work (2 more people I know left in the last week!) and I just found out they are outsourcing my old department. It's somewhat ominous to be sure.
*yawn*
However, at this moment, I am too tired to care. I have a job for the near future, so I'm not going to let it worry me. Much.
Going to sleep now.
