Congress 2008

Dancing at Congress was amazing! Opening Day was the best since we had a lot of movement to do. Unfortunately, as usual, the music was different than what we were given and rehearsed to and some of the best choreography wasn't used. Hispanic Liturgy Friday night would've been fantastic, but some of the dancers didn't know the movement and messed up. I was able to dance in the song of thanksgiving because Vince wasn't there. I loved the choreography. Then I was able to make it back to the Jazz Liturgy to see that group do their dance. It was so beautiful. I would love to learn that piece! John and Connie were not with us this year since they had another convention to attend with John's work. Some of the company members overdid it with libations. It was almost embarrassing that they reeked of alcohol at liturgy. Two of them were a little too "Hollywood" and not "liturgical". Also some people forgot about the company and went off and did personal socializing both Friday night and Saturday night instead of attending the company dinner. I think that it is important to bond together at least one of the nights. There was plenty of time of personal socializing. Anyway that was my take on the situation this weekend. Closing liturgy was anti-climatic since the prelude was cut down to about 30 seconds and as usual, the theme song was shortened to a minimum. I pray that Valyermo Dancers will be able to continue to be an integral part of liturgy at Congress in the coming years. I love dancing under John West. I feel his movement and it is amazing!
