So, I go see my dad in Florida. My brother and I get there around 2:30 am (Eastern Time) and go to bed. We go visit my Dad and he is barely awake. Complains loudly about pain in his back and other places. Non responsive most of the day. Alba (my step-mom) is nagging him to be alert and see us. It was pretty scary as I thought it was too late. But, my brother and I go and visit with him w/o Alba and we just talk quietly and softly to him. The nurse tells us he is very critical. He is so swollen from fluid retention since his kidney is not functioning that his knees were the size of cantalopes and his hands looked like softballs. The doctor decides he is going to save him and orders hemo-dialysis (kidney dialyisis) and they have to surgically install shuts to run the tubes into him for the dialysis. While waiting for them to take him to surgery, Dad tells me he love me. He hasn't said that to me in over 40 years!!! Right after surgery they do 1/2 of a dialysis treatment and he lost 6 pounds of fluid. The next morning he does 4 hours of dialysis and they took out 9 more pounds! He was wiped out and Alba kept telling him to wake up.. GGGRRRRRRRR! The plan is to keep him in ICU until the end of the week. Then he'll go to a regular room and then into rehab from there. He will have to have dialysis 3-4 times a week for at least 3 months. It is so sad to see him suffering so much, but he swears he's going to live to 105! Keep the prayers coming please!
