( Part 3)

“What do you think about a threesome?” Callie sat next to Mark in the crowded cafeteria; handing one of her two coffee’s to him.

“Excuse me?!” Mark choked after taking sip.

“You, me, little Grey” she ignored the look of shock on his face, “well, I’d prefer a twosome but seeing as though you two come in a tightly knit package…whatdya say… you, me, her... and a video camera??”

“You know, you use that offer a lot, one day I’m going to have to take you up on it” Callie gave him a look of hope, “I don't mean today!” he shook his head at her.

“Eh, your loss, besides it's probably just a temporary lapse in judgment” she shrugged it off.

“I think you’re really starting to lose it” he began to get up from his seat.

“Oh, sit down man-whore. Arizona has a date tonight…” he reluctantly took his chair back.

“I take it the conversation didn’t go too well?” she shook her head “damn it, you should’ve taken her flowers. Ladies love flowers, Torres! That's like, chapter 1 in the handbook!”

She waved her hand dismissing him, “She has a date tonight and it’s not with me. It’s over.” she took a sip of her coffee “do you think it’s that scrub nurse Tanya? She’s always wanting on Arizona’s service, and I think I’ve caught her giving her the ‘eyes’ during a few surgeries” she looked over at her friend, who was clearly paying no attention to anything coming out of her mouth.

“I mean I guess I could ask Lexie about a threesome… I just don’t know if she'll be into the whole 'boobs' thing... but then again who doesn't like boobs? Am I right?" He laughed. Callie’s eyes grew wide in disbelief, slightly disturbed, Mark cleared his throat and tired to save himself “Uh...Right, right, nurse Tanya, she’s hot… I say go for it!" he mumbled "So, I’ve got to go find Lexie… lots and lots of images... naked, dirty images” he stood hastily, eager to find his girlfriend.

“Mark this is im-“ he was already halfway out the door “portant” she sighed.

Callie sat quietly at the table sipping her coffee staring up at the ceiling, while thoughts of Arizona and her mystery date clouded her mind. It wasn’t like Callie to feel so defeated, she fought for the things she loved, and she didn’t let them go, she held on for dear life. It amazed her to think that in about three short weeks, her life had completely changed before her eyes, and she could do nothing to stop the out of control cycle. Fear and anxiety of what could have been, the thought of actually letting someone in, in such a way that her eyes and her heart would be blinded by all those who were not Arizona, forced her to break it off. Over the years Callie Torres had become fiercely independent, and instead of allowing herself to actually feel the intimate connection she had with the PEDS surgeon, she thought it easier to stop it before it could drown her. The problem is that ever since she made the horrible mistake, weeks ago, all she could think about is the want to completely drown in this, whatever this was. That it was Arizona’s smell, and hair, and love, and dimples that she wanted to drown herself in, and date or no date… this thing that they had… she wasn’t ready to let it slip away, not just yet.

Callie shook her head and snapped back into reality, picking up her phone she dialed her best friend, probably interrupting impromptu on call room sex… she had to, she had a plan.

Arizona sat alone at the bar; drink in one hand, unlit cigarette in the other, lost in her own thoughts.

“Is this seat taken?” came a flirtatious voice.

“Oh, by all means” she pointed at the empty space beside her.

“Daydreaming?”

“I think daydreams are supposed to be pleasant” she responded halfheartedly.

“You look good”

“Thanks” Arizona smiled, taking a sip of her drink.

“Hot date?”

“She told you?” she rolled her eyes and shook her head, “what am I saying… of course she told you!” she snapped finishing off what little liquid was left in her glass.

“Hey, hey… don’t get your panties in a bunch… wait… you are wearing panties right?” Typical Mark Sloan.

“You” she pointed at him, “have problems”.

“I’m not the one drowning my sorrows by way of Mr. Cuervo…” he looked around the bar, scanning the patrons, “did she stand you up?”

“Who?”

“Nurse Tanya… or whoever 'replacement Callie' is” he looked at his watch, 10pm, too late to start a date. “Look, I know it may not be my place, wait a second… it totally is my place, as the best friend and the would-be maid of honor, er, best man at your would-be wedding-“

“Wedding? What wedding? Who's getting married? What are you talking abo-”

“Shh!” he put his finger to her lips to silence her “wise one talk, drunk one listen” she shook her head at him. “Torres is what you’d call a… wounded puppy. Wounded puppies don’t really deal well when people suddenly care for them, they freak out… they only expect people to hurt them” the blonde woman now looked completely confused. “Look, she’s going to make a lot of stupid mistakes, its inevitable, but you’ve got to let her try again. You’ve got to let the puppy peek its head back in the doggy door, without hitting it over the head with a rolled up newspaper!” he grabbed her shoulders and shook her a little “You going on this date is killing her. Arizona you are KILLING the puppy!” he yelled the last part

“Mark, there was no date…” she shrugged him off of her.

“There was no date?” he repeated, shocked.

“There was no date?!” Callie walked up from behind where the blonde was sitting, obviously eavesdropping on their conversation, her voice was a mixture of anger, and happiness, a pitch she didn’t know she had.

“Callie…” Arizona looked down and shook her head, not turning to face the brunette; Mark quietly removed himself from the impending scene.

“I thought we weren’t friends, Arizona. You said that by calling me Callie it would mean that we were friends” her volume was gradually rising, the blonde shifted her seat to look at the now furious latina. “You lied to me! I have been racking my brain, going through every mental image of every woman at that hospital, getting nauseous at the thought of someone else touching you, or kissing you… and there was no date! I cannot believe-”

“What did you expect me to do!?” Arizona interrupted “What Callie? Did you want me to come to work everyday, with tear stains on my face?! Did you want me to cringe whenever someone mentioned your name, because it hurt to much to hear it? Did you want me go through more cigarettes than I did through all of my college years combined? Because I did all those things, even though you didn’t see them!” Callie’s stood silently, expressionless, waiting for her heart to slow down in order to form a response. “I am a damn good doctor, and even though every single inch of my body was numb from a pain that I didn’t know existed up until three weeks ago, I pushed through it. I had to lie to you, I had to have no emotional ties to you, because otherwise I would break! Do you get that?! I put on a brave face because people depend me to be strong, people need me to be at the top of my game at all times, people need me- ” before either of them could take a breath Arizona felt a pair of lips crush her own, in a demanding kiss. Both of them unaware of the patrons who were now gawking at the pair, Callie pushed the smaller woman into the edge of the bar, making it so there was no separation between their bodies.

“I need you” she broke the kiss for only a second before making contact again. If oxygen weren’t becoming a necessity, both were sure that kiss could have gone on forever. “Arizona I'm so sorry."

“You don’t have to...”

“I do, I do have too” Arizona let her continue “Um. I’m an idiot… I mean, I’m a genius, hello I build bones like god” she mocked, causing a chuckle from the other woman “but when it comes to this” she pointed between them “when it comes to this, I’m an idiot.” Arizona sighed in agreement.

“You're scared, and I get that... but talk to me instead of always trying to run away from me. I'm here, I'm not going anywhere, okay?"

“I love you. Those were the words I wanted to say to you that day, and I’ll uh, I'll probably regret the fact that I didn’t say it for the rest of my life. But I can say it now, I can say it because I've never never felt this strongly for anyone, and if I don't say it, I will probably implode. Arizona Robbins, I absolutely, and uncompromisingly love you. I love you. I. Love. You.” When she saw the dimples form on the smaller woman’s face, she couldn’t help but mirror the action “Arizona, do you want to go on a date with me?” the blonde let out a low, deep laugh.

“Maybe.” she responded, coolly.

“Maybe?”

“Yeah, work's really insane right now and…” Callie’s looked completely defeated now, wounded puppy eyes and all, Arizona couldn't postpone this any longer “and… I love you too” lifting the brunettes face with her hand, stroking her cheek with her thumb. “But I swear to god, Calliope Torres, if you ever, EVER, break my heart again…” she kissed her lips softly.

“Calliope? Does that mean I get to be your girlfriend again?” Hope flooded her features.

Arizona nodded, “It means that you get to be my everything again.”
