Yep, still enjoying the Kanye album, still hate that the previous statement is true. It's misogynistic and vulgar, sure, but the confidence in the sparse electronic noise that he raps over is just admirable. Unlike the previous album which was all about excess, this is pared down, tuned to an emotional response to sound, but never overcomplicated. The guy really has a great fucking ear for sound. This veers closer to the NIN level of detail than the unchanged looping beats of most rap, but I actually think a lot of his sounds are more interesting that the plain industrial NIN does. With Kanye, there's no expectation to subvert (yet he manages to do it anyway?) and with NIN it's very obvious what to expect. Kanye can even make auto-tune sound good because he uses it as a tool rather than a crutch.
