*insert rant about working on a weekend sucking*
I've been listening to Ænima in the car. It's one of those albums I've heard so many times that the intrigue with the album was more or less gone. Now that I'm an actual metal fan, I'm hearing this album in a whole new way, and I'm falling in love with it all over again.\
The songs that hit home are pretty different. Even though Tool was thought of a "metal" band at the time, I didn't necessarily hear the music that way. Now that I have an appreciation for sludgy metal, Jimmy is very much a standout track on the album. The guitar is razor sharp and grinding on the main riff. I had it blasting in the car going down the highway and I was loving it. My body was rattled by the bass.
Hooker with a Penis was also great to listen to; it also features that unrestrained biting guitar tone.
Grab Pushit and Third Eye and I think those would be my top 4 tunes on the album. Pushit has always been my favourite, but with my appreciation of Isis in hand, the pacing of Third Eye appeals to me even more now.
It's nice to have this album feel fresh. For the longest time I could only listen to it sparingly, and I would always pick Undertow over it. I'm glad that a simple shift in the context in which I listen to an album could alter my experience of it so dramatically.
