Nightmare
He awakes in his bed, reaches for the light switch and flicks it on, and the room is normal and plain (and what else would it be?) and there are his photographs on the wall. Of course it's normal, why is he even thinking about it?
The doorbell rings and he walks to the door, sees that it's an ordinary door (and why not?). When he looks out he sees a woman, wonders if he remembers her but he can't decide. He turns the knob and the door opens, (what door doesn't open?) and the woman strides in, beautiful with olive skin and long dark hair.
"Don't you remember me, Henry?"
He doesn't remember her (but this is normal, people forget) but suddenly he knows her name.
"Cynthia."
She draws close to him, too close. Her scent is something he knows, and that pose she takes that looks a little seductive.
"I owe you something, Henry, remember?"
He doesn't remember, unless it's from the dream (what dream?) but she's kissing him now, pulling him close to her, and he needs this, when was the last time he was touched? When was the last time he even left (because he can leave, the door is right there)?
Henry kisses her hungrily, his hands running down her back, gripping her hips, letting her know that whatever she wants, he wants it too, this time. (This time? What happened before?)
When he buries his head in her neck, she gives a small cry, almost as if she is hurt (but she isn't hurt, of course not).
And then he awakes, in his bed, reaches for the light switch and it doesn't work; everything is dark except the eerie glow on the wall of something that doesn't belong there coming in.
"I'm always watching you."
Henry curls up, draws a blanket over himself, and remembers Cynthia's warmth. He tells himself that this is the dream.
