One of the pictures we took at KLCC last Wednesday (refer entry before the last), made ourselves look like jakun tourists aka barbarians. Courtesy of Zheng Xi, this one. Mitch, Andrea, Zheng Xi. I'm at the back..it's such a pretty picture..
I have been having a great week at university. Techinically, I am a uni student, doing a pre-university course. Sounds intellectual, no? Haha..besides attending long, sometimes boring but always informative and occassionally fun-filled lectures of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics, I have been mingling around with people..progressed with the setting up of a LEO Club here and sampling new places for lunch! My lecturers seem to have this weird liking for my name.
Sher Reen.
Easy to remember? Well that makes me an equally easy target. Especially in Chemistry and Biology, I am called on to explain concepts, solve example questions on the whiteboard and define different terms. Ms Jaslinder has myself and Zi Hwei mixed up..she looks at Zi Hwei and says, "Sher Reen, can you remind us what active transport is..?" and it's really weird. Ms Kana calls on me more than anyone else in Chemistry too. I guess that could sometimes be a blessing? I'm constantly kept on my toes!
We have attending started LAN subject lectures- Malaysian Studies (Malaysian History..in English) and Moral Studies ( this is far more interesting than memorising values, definitions and meekly attempting to answer questions..) and our lecturer, Ms Sumathy, is a very interesting person. Bursting with wit and sarcasm, speaking eloquent and fluent English, she delivers her facts with such style and precision. I am particularly impressed with the approach she takes- be open-minded, and you shall learn.
That aside, we have seen Mr Ling kill a monkey in attempt to explain to us a Physics principle (inside joke), had a 22-person lunch at this mamak, the famed Ali Maju on Monday..where we made so much noise, introduced ourselves to the whole long table, and on Tuesday, we went for another lunch at Bistro de Soleil at Wisma UOA, this pretty good place that serves breakfasts and good pasta..and the owner is a sweet lady who offered me warm water on the house to soothe my cough..and snuck an early tea at Studels before Malaysian Studies, had another 11-person lunch at Rice Bowl yesterday and shared ghost stories in the dim lighting while devouring yummy steamed chicken and rice, and today..had a pizza lunch with Zi Hwei, Sara Teh, Hui Wen, Pui San, Michelle Oh and Ning Jia. Our bunch of girls have been on sugar high today especially, giggling non-stop at every other thing, what more after a visit to San Francisco coffee..Sara had a cinammon roll that made her feel excited (and she slowly chomped it down in Math), I had a chicken mushroom pie that brought happiness, Pui San and Zi Hwei had ice-blended mochas that they made multiple toasts with, and Sook Yeen, before leaving for Hong Kong, had a Lemon Lime Tea Freeze..which had "less fat" because there was "no cream". We collected our past year questions from Joy (the must-know photostat lady) and I lugged a huge pile of files, question booklets and a two-inch-thick Physics reference book all over campus!! Those who saw me must have thought I was hit by some exam or nerd bug or something..
Rakesh Lingam started A-Levels at HELP. A friend from five years ago..it's been that long since I saw the fellow. From his short little self back in primary school, he's now a fairly tall still-two-years-underaged chap who's in all my classes. A pure science combination..it was quite cool, meeting up after all those years. So much has changed, but we're still bonded by childish memories from the past..the hopscotch, games of fire and ice, police and thief, bar to bar..peeking through holes in the partitions between classrooms, enduring mental maths by Mrs Kuru and language quizzes by Mrs Balu..all the funny moments..
Life as a more grown up student is indeed an experience..new problems, new challenges and new experiences beckon, while I take on a new level of thinking..but it's just a part of growing up..and I'm liking it.
