It isn't just that he's black!

I'm annoyed with the media. Yes, I understand the significance of Obama being partially black. It is historic, it is amazing considering the too recent history of slavery in our country, not to mention less talked about triumphs such as people who weren't rich, white, and male obtaining the right to vote.

I watched this great statement by Colin Powell and I wish I had it word for word, but he said that one of the best things Obama did for this race was to be a man, a politician who just happened to be black. His campaign was never about race, or about being a historic event - it was about the issues.

So I will celebrate that our country has come as far as being able to elect someone who is racially diverse. But more than that, I will be celebrating the hope I have for what can happen next. Even if I walked out of his primary campaign rally angry, I have come around.
