Harry Potter on the brain

I am trying to re-read book 5, but I have always had a huge block when reading books I have already read. They have to be really good and just as excited the second time around. As much as I love Harry Potter, I have to admit that they are more one-time books. At least for me ( Read more... )

I can reread almost anything - and usually do. I couldn't even tell you how many times I've read Harry Potter, Wheel of Time and Sword of Truth, but I did eventually hit a point where I struggled to read them again. That doesn't mean I won't enjoy them again the next time.

Part of the reason I reread books so frequently is because I miss so much the first time around. This is due, in part, to the fact that I read so quickly the details don't all sink in. But try as I might I can't slow down, because I have to know what happens next! :D I also find myself rereading books from different perspectives. For example, I once sat down with Harry Potter to try and discover why it had captured me (and so many others) so completely. Sometimes, analyzing structure and word choice, etc. Or I just want to recapture the original reaction I had to a book.

Oh, and one more thing, sometimes, no matter how many times I've read a book, part of me still wonders if this time it'll be different (this time such and such won't happen) but just with those really special ones.
