i feel spontaneous
robbie and i took a little road trip this weekend. it was a good time, and totally last-minute. i've never done that before. we were thinking about going camping (i bought a tent on ebay last month and we haven't been able to use it yet!), but the weather wasn't looking great (too hot and a high chance of "violent" thunderstorms) so instead, we decided to go to luray caverns. neither of us has been in at least a decade (longer really cause i think it's been 20 years for robbie) so it seemed like a fantastic idea. and as we're both out of vacation time (already!), we took off after i got home from work yesterday.
i decided it would be cool if we drove out there, stayed in a hotel, and then went to the caverns first thing in the a.m. after a little online research, i discovered that the hotels in luray looked pretty crappy, but the ones on the way in front royal looked good. i ended up calling a couple of them mere minutes before we hopped in the car, and we wound up with reservations at the quality inn for that evening. it actually turned out to be a cute place, and the king bed and nice italian restaurant were wonderful after sitting in traffic on route 66 for ever and a day. over dinner, i remarked to robbie that i wondered if anyone thought we were having an affair, since i'd only booked the room for one night on the day of arrival. i guess that's just me wanting to create some excitement in my life though;)
the caverns were beautiful, and i'm really glad we went. next time we probably won't need to make it into an overnight trip, but it's nice to get away sometimes for no real reason.
