I’ve come to the conclusion that no one really ever spends their whole work day actually working. Whether it’s email, aim, or browsing through store catalogs (or bridesmaids dresses), you’ve gotta do something to break up the monotony of work work work.
And I’ve come to that conclusion after receiving countless “junk” email jokes and funny things from one co-worker and seeing another schedule flights and just now going through the Land’s End website. And I suppose that I would have realized this earlier, but I’m an overachiever and often think that everyone else is too, that people do work all day and relax when they go home. I guess if they have a bunch of kids at home relaxing is hard to do, so why not do it at work?
Every day I reach two different peaks, one where I have so much stuff that I’ll never get it all done, and the second when I’ve run out of “immediates” and start checking email, away messages, and cruises (gotta plan that honeymoon some time).
I like my job. I’ll be happier when the current president retires, he’s 72 and doesn’t believe in marketing. He worked for the government for something like 50 years, and they don’t need to market. He told me once he’d rather understate when it comes to advertising, but you won’t get members or retain them that way, and apparently we’ve been losing members consistently for the last few years (hence, we’ve been losing money). Apparently the office has downsized in the personnel department too, there used to be more employees. At least salaries weren’t cut, cause then everyone would probably quit.
Meeting with the priest tonight, I have a bevy of questions for him, and hopefully he remembers that we’re coming this time.
and i have to say, this under-desk heater is the best idea ever. it's cold out today!!
