People grow up...people change.
This hit home the other night when I hung out with two people from my HS barkada. As usual, we were noisy, giggly and ravenous. Gossip flowed freely the moment they entered my messy car.
It was the same..yet not the same.
It gave me a jolt to realize that we were talking of our respective careers, our long-term life plans, and even moving away to different countries. I can associate these concepts with other people but never to my brakada...the girls I spent my teen years with...the ones whose silliest moments I shared...the friends that sometimes frustrate me but who I love all the same.
We've grown up....kind of.
It was also quite shocking to hear tales of some of my high school batchmates getting pregnant, getting married or just having emotional/psychological/academic breakdowns. Some were expected to behave this way (face it, its easy to identify the slutty ones in school) but the instances wherein a shy, silent mousy girl in high school suddenly morphing into a 21-year-old mother of two just plain blew me away.
Teenage pregnancies, sudden marriages, too much booze and drugs, bed-hopping...are these REALLY my batchmates?!
Then there are the success stories. A former wild child finally gets it right...girls who are enjoying professional opportunities overseas...people who are truly enjoying their foray into the working world...friends who have FINALLY gotten rid of their no-boyfriend-since-birth statuses.
Hmmmm.
