My favorite things about Christmas:
1) tsokolate and bibingka eaten outside in the nippy december air
2) money from relatives who don't care about you enough to get you a more personal gift (but are still obligated to give you gifts nonetheless)
3) Christmas lights
4) the endless loop of Christmas songs played in the shopping malls (reminds one of the spirit of giving...and receiving!)
5) the overindulgence in lechong baka, roast beef and turkey
6) having more cakes and goodies than you know what to do with
7) bazaars and tiangges (no matter how crowded)
8) really cold mornings
9) dressing up for Christmas parties!
10) thoughtful, well-chosen gifts from friends (which reminds me, I still havent finished shoppong for all of them and its Christmas tomorrow! Post Christmas gifts maybe?)
11) people coming home from all corners of the globe...or finally getting together from all parts of Manila
12) feeling like a kid again
13) getting a rush from buying the perfect gifts for friends and family
14) SALES! SALES! SALES!
15) the 24th just for the unbelievable food (father's side) and the 25th for genuine love (mother's side)
My hatest things:
1) traffic. everyone seems to crawl out of their holes during the holidays
2) embarassing situations where somebody gives you a gift and you realize that either a)you havent bought their gift yet or b)you really had no intention of getting them something in the first place
3) holiday pounds (its a losing battle)
4) cutting your fingers on the tape dispenser while you wrap gifts
5) sweet holiday ham (blech)
6) realizing that you're losing more money than you're getting
7) having people tell you that as a working girl, you shouldnt be expecting gifts from relatives
8) loooooooong lines at the cashier
9) lantern parade
10) having a cold because of the december chill
11) perishable goods surplus (sayang lang talaga yung food. my family of five cant eat it all. and to think we give away a lot of it already)
12) having a busted cellphone during the greetings-giving season
13) being the emcee at parties especially if its with relatives or with my mom/dad's friends (im a disgrace to masscom)
14) realizing that there are budgetary limits to what you can give even if you want to give so much more
15) finding out that your borthers polished off the best goodies in the fridge before you've even had a crack at them
Merry Christmas, all!
