Since it's Saturday somewhere in the world. Let the recs begin!
Hi, I thought I'd start this little mini!fest with some of my favourite crossovers with the Buffy-verse. I don't know why, but one Xander Harris made his way into all of them. *scratches head*
1) Item Title:
Practical LinguisticsCreator’s Name:
allyndraRating: FR15
Pairing: Jack O'Neill/Xander Harris
Word Count: 31,075 words; unfinished, but most chapters can stand alone-ish anyway.
Why I chose this: It's funny. I like funny. And the two make such a cute and hot couple.
Excerpt: Linguistic Relativity: A perspective popularized by Benjamin Whorf, which holds that habitual language use shapes one's thoughts and filters one's perceptions.
Daniel had worried at first when a representative of the Watcher's Council started showing interest in SG-1. He hadn't been concerned about Xander trying to use his knowledge for unethical purposes, like the NID. He hadn't even worried that Xander would hurt of endanger Daniel's teammates. No, the archaeologist had been worried that he could be replaced.
2) Item Title:
'Return to the Blood Lands' SeriesCreator’s Name:
narukyuRating: Part I FR15, Part II FR21, Part III FR18
Pairing: eventually Rodney McKay/Xander Harris
Word Count: Part I 20.260, Part II 54.251, Part III 134.041 (WIP)
Warnings: angst, dark, violence, character deaths (Super!Xander, but in a still very likable way. I'm usually really not a fan of Super!Xander.)
Why I chose this: Because it's brilliant, duh! The world Narukyu built inside our known SG-verse is just amazing. And we get to meet some old 'friends'.
Excerpt: Xander woke up with a suddenness that surprised him as much as it confused him. His movement was limited- he seemed to be trapped against a wall in some kind of web. The place, or what little he could see of it, was different than the place he had been. Colder, harsher. More alien than he expected.
And then he met his first Wraith. He didn’t know it was a Wraith at the time. He just assumed it was a demon. It wasn’t one he recognized but it was one that seemed to recognize him. “Human,” it had spat at him, somehow grinning through the harsh tone. The contrast was eerie but the face of the demon threw him off the most.
He knew vampires looked a lot like humans, as did many other demons, but the being in front of him seemed more human-like than he was comfortable with. Like, human gone terribly wrong instead of a completely nonhuman demon wearing the ill fitting form of a human. It didn’t sit well with him, that his enemy should look so human. Not when he spent so much time trying to save the collective butt of humanity by doing his small part in preventing the end of the world.
3) Item Title:
'Bridges' VerseCreator’s Name: Tassos
Rating: FR13
Characters: Jack O'Neill, Xander Harris; mini!Slayers, SG1, Scoobies,...
Word Count: 139.849 words in three stories
Warnings: potty mouths
Why I chose this: 'Xander's Real Family' is one of my favourite themes in the BtVS-verse and when Jack's the dad it all makes sense. They are so much alike. If you don't believe me, go read this wonderful fic.
Excerpt: After the collapse of Sunnydale, Jack gets a call about a woman he knew over twenty years ago...and the son he didn't know he had. (Summary)
4) Item Title:
'Xander in Atlantis' Series Creator’s Name: Coldhands
Rating: mostly FR15, Fic #4 FR18
Character/Pairing: Rodney McKay/Xander Harris
Word Count: 2.8353 words all 5 ficlets together
Why I chose this: I just love this pairing. I'd made this a R/X-only Top 5 if I could find more awesome fic. That was a hint, btw.
5) Item Title or Description:
Chances Are & the sequel
The Cosmo Boy's Guide to Dating Creator’s Name:
allyndraRating: FR15/13
Pairing: Rodney McKay/Xander Harris
Word Count: 6.928 words
Excerpt: The first thing Rodney McKay thought of when he woke up in his hotel room with a hangover and an unfamiliar arm around his waist was probabilities. He'd run them years ago, inputting as many variables as he could think of, and he knew precisely how unlikely it was for him to wind up drunk and in bed with a stranger. Very. He rolled over, careful not to jar his aching head, to see exactly whom he'd picked up at the bar last night.
His bed partner was tangled in the sheets, head buried in the pillows, but Rodney could see enough to tell that it was a man. That made sense. Statistically, women were 73% more likely than men to turn down his advances, And 90% more likely to express their displeasure by tossing their drinks in his face. Rodney tugged a pillow off the man's head and revealed tousled, dark hair, which was a surprise. Rodney's usual type was blond.
