I'm glad you're liking the re-watch posts! :D

Riley is just awesome. I know I said that about Brody in Light, but this episode is all Riley's. ;)

Other than for the plot, I'm still baffled why Young had to go to the ice planet (Hoth). I don't mind because we get to see TJ come to the forefront a bit more, so that was worth it to me.

I totally agree with you regarding TJ and the TJ&Greer dynamic. And I think she is one of the stongest, most level-headed leaders on the show. If only she weren't 3rd in command (militarily speaking).

I also agree that Rush wasn't being malicious when he told Young not to waste his own life (not in the instance, at least). It was rather foolhardy of Young to risk everyone's life - but then again, perhaps he watched the Star Trek movies one too many times (there are times when the needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many ~ paraphrasing here).

The way James handled the Chloe/Scott thing still amazes me. I'm so thankful that they portrayed her as a mature woman who doesn't have to throw a temper tantrum over a man. That woman has got some class, boobs or not. LOL!

Eli and his geeky references never fail to amuse me. :)

I really like the TJ&Greer dynamic, particularly in this episode. I think they're interactions are simply and complex at the same time (does that make sense?). They're just a couple people who got stuck in a shitty situation. Then there are moments when they need the structure of command to be able to react quickly and predictably and just "get to work", as Greer puts it.

Chloe was really floundering, and I think the writers intended that. It's too bad it created such a well of dislike for her character.

I like the fact she's trying to find her footing, that she's not "perfect". Makes her character much more believable, if perhaps a bit less likable at first. In stargate fandom, we're not really used to flawed characters. Our characters have demons, sure - but not too many flaws.
Is that good? Bad? I don't think it's either. I think it's just a shift in storytelling.

I'm starting to think that the characters I haven't liked as much are going to end up being important to me before it is all over. Chloe - when she nervously gulped the wine while her father praised her in the first episode - she seemed real to me. Like someone I might know; she seems like a real person. You don't always completely like real people.

In "Water" we got this tiny glimpse of James that showed us that she (1) has a sense of humor (come on, her "you couldn't find a supply closet?" was just funny!) and (2) isn't one to get into a stupid cat fight over a boy. I'm liking her more and more as time goes on.

Same is true of T.J. - this episode, she really shines.

So I'm moving from "how come all the women are supporting characters?" to "I'm liking how the female characters are shaping up". They aren't always perfect, but they seem like women I might now. I like that.
