Magnifecent thing to see a fully-armored Spartan sitting on the edge of his base, morning light illuminating his sihouette, staring out into yonder hills ( Read more... )

And somewhere across the canyon, the sound of a tank's engine started up, as Simmons finished his calibrations and re-engineering of the Scorpion's systems. Still felt strange.
Time to go for a spin, maybe?

[Of course not!]

Staring at your own feet as you walked only got to be so exciting. Sarge blinked upwards when he simultaneously heard and FELT a BIG THING coming at him, and he was pleasantly surprised to see it was a tank. Letting out a quick whistle and a wave, Sarge tried to get its attention.

"Shiela! Hey Shiela, what're you doin' out and about today?"

Simmons still hadn't quite mastered the tank's controls as he drove towards the red end of the canyon. Theory was one thing, he had that down no problem, but in practice? He hadn't really intended to end up over there, but at least he figured he'd have the firepower if anything happened...

He was almost too distracted by working out what was what to spot the figure in red armour. Just in time, he remembered to hit the brake and pulled the tank to a halt. Oh, hell. But why is he yelling for... oh, yeah.

It took a few tense moments before he decided to flip the tank's hatch and look out. "Uh... hi, sir."

Sarge blinked, and dropped his arm, not sure what to do. He hadn't intended on finding Simmons so suddenly, but... something inside boiled, and Levin forced a smile.

"Simmons? It that really you? Yer... yer just the person I was lookin' for, you know? Heh..." The Red looked away for a moment. "Been kinda quiet around here without... certain people, and... so much goin' on. Y'know?"

Sarge certainly felt like kicking himself.

Simmons nodded as he saw Sarge's reaction. "Yeah. It's me," he said, leaning onto the side of the tank's cockpit. "And you're right. Been a... long time, hasn't it?" he asked, a noticeable lump forming in his throat as he spoke. "You were looking for me, sir? Why?"
His head span as he talked, thoughts bouncing off the sides of his mind wildly. Does he know, can he know, how can I tell him, it's been so long now...

The red shift his weight a moment before idling up beside the tank, obviously having forgotten about Shiela or the lack thereof.

"Well, I was just wonderin' what you were up to, y'know, like a sarge usually does when his pri'ats run off from home, finding new friends and makin' families and stuff like that. And I was feelin' a little lonesome," Sarge coughed slightly, hoping Simmons wouldn't take that too deeply as he meant it in a true way.

"Y'know, how's things on the Blue side of the world, I guess," Sarge finished up, cocking his head.

[here's one for the country grammer]

"They're..." Simmons paused for a moment, fishing for words. "Alright, I guess. There's some good things - " he unconsciously rubbed a hand along the controls of the tank, not bringing up his relationship yet - "some bad things. Most everyone's been pretty good to me. Except the new corporal. He's been an ass. But, y'know... life goes on..." He paused again. "I still think about you all, too." He wasn't going to mention his little planned excuse yet.

"Hey, yeah, I guess the blues aren't so bad once you get to know 'em n' stuff... I mean," Sarge coughed, realizing his little blunder. Of course, it was was kind of null to even start chastizing himself about cavorting with Blues.

Guilty guilty guilty.

"Oh, really? S'good to know you haven't forgotten about us... y'know, even if we're half a klick away and all."
