His boat is big and strong and bold, she has a stalwart bow

Chuck waited by the dock, looking out in the direction the...merpeople...were approaching from, according to the sensors. Merpeople. Just when he thought his life couldn't get any weirder. He really hoped they were friendly, because an alliance with mermaids would...well, it would make a really cool movie; he wasn't sure what actual good it ( Read more... )

Lukey's boat's got high top sails, aha, me boys... dr_macgregor September 6 2006, 16:49:41 UTC
Rachel looked out of the captain's area. Looks like Chuck was here and fidgeting. She went over. "All aboard, there!" Rae smiled at him, gesturing for him to hop over onto the boat. "There's a full comfortable cabin below. I've set up some quick sensors and run the cables up here to deck." She pointed over to some computer cables sitting on a low table near a microphone. "Hook the laptop up to that, why don'tcha? We can use the mic if they don't surface. Either way, I wouldn't mind getting a recording from the sensors I attatched to the trailer. I'm willing to bet if they surface, they'll keep one or two people underwater, and I'd like to record anything that goes on. Oh, there's juices and coffee below, too."

Weir smiled as she walked on board followed by Lorne and Cadman. "Are they still in the same place?" She asked looking at the instruments.

David followed Marc out to the dock, wearing the holster and weapon Marc had insisted on. He felt uncomfortable with it on, but he'd known better than to argue. Everyone else aboard, he stepped up to the side of the boat and eyed it warily before stepping on and giving Rae a wave.

"so this is it, we're all here?"

Chuck glanced over the sensors Rae had set up. "They're still en route to Atlantis," he confirmed. "I would suggest we leave now unless we want to wait until they're here."

Rae smiled and waved back to David. "Right then, let's set to. I'm suing motors only on low, no sail so it's easier to slow down. If anyone's never been on a boat before, I suggest you sit below until we meet them. Carson keep anti-nausea pills in the forward head." They looked at her blankly. "The bathroom in the front, at the far end just below where I'm sitting. The front of the boat is forward, the back is the aft."

The trip didn't take too long. After a while, Rae started powering down to let the Catherine Elena drift a bit. "Dr. Weir? We're coming up on them. Based on the sensors, they should be off the... right side in about 3 minutes." She remained in the Captain's chair, ready to restart the ship and any time. It was also safer there, behind 3 walls.

Well. Apparently there was indeed someone home in the Sunken City. And they'd been noticed, to judge by the boat that had left the city and was slowing down as it approached.

Seyunda studied the boat as best she could from underwater. It didn't look heavily armed, not that she'd ever actually seen a boat before.

"Don't do anything stupid," she muttered to Marhan as she passed him. "If they attack, get our diplomats down to a safe distance." Motioning for the others to follow her, she broke the surface just within shouting range of the boat.

David, still feeling more than a little queasy and turning a very unattractive color of pale green, hung his head over the side of the vessel's side, watching the water slip by beneath. He'd been on his Uncle's boat more than once, but the seasickness never failed to get him the first thirty minutes or so--after the initial green-gills, he was generally handy on a boat--but not until then.

They began to slow, and he tipped his head to the side, sqinting down the long line of the Catherine Elena's hull to the spot just ahead where a flash of whitecaps showed something rising from beneath the water. Blue eyes wide, he kept his gaze trained on the.....mer...person as they slowed to a stop nearby.

humaniod physiology, 'least from the hips up-- blue-green skin, is that hair or.....seaweed? Some parasitic or symbiotic growth maybe--of course our hair wouldn't hold up under the water for years...with a start he looked over his shoulder, his face a mask of awe. Instinctively he sought out Marc's solid form as he stood on the deck, feet ( ... )

Seyunda looks at the boat, studying the faces peering across the waves at her and her group. Most of them are unreadable, faces giving away nothing of their feelings or intentions, a few hands placed in easy reach of weapons - but one is openly staring, a look of youthful awe and joy on his face.

"They're friendly," she says softly, letting out a breath she hadn't been aware she was holding. "Thank the Creators, they're friendly."

She glances back at her own party, trying to figure out what the best approach to this is. They've never had to deal with strangers...meeting new people...making sure the unknown didn't think they were hostile. Marhan's swimming in place impatiently, tail swishing back and forth as he keeps breaking formation and then remembering to pull back, clearly eager to meet the strangers, and that gives her an idea; she can let them know they're friendly the same way she'd learned they were. "Marhan, go talk to him ( ... )

David nearly scrambles away when the merperson begins to swim in his direction--until he looks the young...man in the face. Because that's what he seems to be...a handsome young man. His skin is paler even than David's, though not by much-David's already pinkening in the wan sunlight. The Merman's skin is a beautiful pearlescent green in the shimmer from the waves beneath, and upon closer inspection the hair that he'd been admiring from afar lay in silky-soft looking strands. The hand against the boat's hull beneath him is webbed, the skin between the fingers delicate and thin, though obviously strong to carry the man through the water so easily.

David realises with a start that he's been spoken to--in a strangely melodious voice. Without thought, he smiles down at the merman and extends his hand in greeting, leaning precariously over the edge to do so.

"Hi....I'm David, of Atlantis.." He gestures over his shoulder at the city, shining and regal above the waves.

"Nice to m-meet you...."

Marhan reaches up and takes David's hand, fingers touching in a brief clasp. "I'm Marhan...Marhan of Sun's Keep."

The water ripples nearby, and he reaches down - the fish here aren't used to being hunted; it's easy enough to catch. "Do your people eat Silverfish, David?" he asks, holding it up as a gift. "It needs to be cooked, so it's a rare treat for us - but you live in the City, you won't have to find a place on the surface to build a fire."

Rae watched from the captain's chair as the youn merman swam over and started talking to David. At least he was getting over his seasickness. Hopefully, Carson's medication would kick in soon. They seemed friendly enough... She knew she was taking a little risk, but... Hell, John wasn't going to be happy she'd gone out with them at all. Regardless of the fact that he was off-world and no one else could really pilot the sailboat.

Rachel eased off of the chair and took her jacket off. The warmth was getting to her in a way it never had before, anyway, and she enjoyed the ocean air on her arms in the short-sleeved t-shirt and Radek's BDUs. She came to stand between David and Lorne and looked out at the merpeople. Used to looking at sparkling ocean without squinting, Rachel smiled at the mermen and merwomen swimming before the gently bobbing boat.

David marvelled at the soft-slick press of the merman's hand against his--and wondered briefly why the diplomats were letting him of all people make first contact. He had, after all, nearly gotten the city sunk at least twice ( ... )

Marhan took the pastry, hesitating for a moment over the protocol of the situation before popping it into his mouth, reasoning that, while it might be rude to eat in front of people while David couldn't eat his gift yet, it would be ruder to hold onto it and have it go to pieces in the water ( ... )
