Jack talked, anger and fear and pain came out of him in streams and streams of words, and the Doctor listened restlessly.
"And how could you... how...?" suddenly it seemed like Jack didn't have a single word left inside of him and tears started to well in his eyes. So many tears that one may have wondered if every word had been like taking a brick out of a dyke.
The Doctor watched, calm on the outside but ranging on the inside, angry at himself and so desperate.
But he didn't know how to overcome the distance he had put between himself and Jack unwillingly.
"I don't know, Jack."
